From Software should hire that man.

maybe without the garbage RNG key item I'm convinced that was Level-5's idea, and not Yasumi Matsuno's. Yes, it was Level-5's executives who wanted it to "extend the game play time". Matsuno hated the idea. Unfortunately, this is all I can find on the subject right now: The 3DSWare game he worked on was Crimson Shroud, and he didn't really stay long in Level-5. There's no real hint that there had been a falling out, but considering that he left soon after it can indicate that he didn't enjoy the executive meddling.

That is the one black mark on that game. Otherwise, it's a good time.

I've got an old playthrough of Parasite Eve 2 (Psx) that I'd like to finish.

I've actually heard Parasite Eve 2 is quite good. Ex, didn't you enjoy (and finish) that one?

I liked it more than the original. A lot of people didn't like PE2 because it was so different than PE1. Or rather, PE2 turned into a typical survival horror game in the vein of Resident Evil. That's all true enough, but PE2 was still a much better typical survival horror game than a whole lot of others of that ilk.

Valkyrie Profile - as someone that's played most of the beloved AAA SNES/PSX JRPG's, this one has always been one of the biggest gaps in my resume. For as long as I remember, dating back to high school, physical copies have commanded a ~$100 price tag, which is far too much for me on a "gamble" purchase when I'm never sure if I'll like a game or not. I actually did buy the PSP version years ago, but I hated using the PSP model I had, especially for sidescrolling stuff. I waited for years and years hoping this one would get a PSN release, but we're about to hit 2020 and it's clear it'll never happen now. Is the IP license tied up somewhere? I own the PS2 game though, but obviously need to play this one first.
This game has been on my mind a lot these past few months, once I started emulating PSX stuff a bit more and I've been on a weird long games / RPG kick this year. I don't think I set any goals this year, for better or worse. But I plan to make 2020 the year I finally play this. Like Shadow Hearts, it sounds like a lot of content is easy to miss without a guide, so I guess I'll have to reference one along the way. What I expect: - I've gotten more into Motoi Sakuraba's music these past few years, so I'm excited and imagine this might be one of his best OST's. - Dark and or unique storyline and characters? Think I've heard that about this one. Demigods, life and death, stuff like that apparently.
- Gorgeous pixel art. - Unique combat system. In fact, since I didn't beat any PSX games this year (yet?), maybe that should be my plan for next year: - Valkyrie Profile - Front Mission 3 BEAT
- Vagrant Story BEAT
- Tron Bonne BEAT
It's possible I might replay FF7 as well before AFTER the remake.
I've been doing my homework.
I like both Parasite Eve 1-2 a lot but always fall off of them after awhile. I would say they are not complex enough to be truly interesting at times, like Vagrant Story (PE1's combat being slightly similar), and then they aren't quite full on action survival horror like RE. So... their weird pacing gameplay wise kind of bores me after a bit I guess.

In any case a lot better than The 3rd Birthday (Psp), finished it and disappointed me!

ninjamasterToo bad it disappointed you. Well I'm a The 3rd Birthday fan. I enjoyed its DNA level upgrade system, frantic cover shooting combat, and deteriorating clothing mechanic. I'll admit the game's plot was terrible and it had some really questionable voice acting at times.

Yeah, the plot was... um. But I also enjoyed the moment-to-moment gameplay. I thought it was pretty impressive, especially for a handheld.
