Congrats on the FFL2 win!
I'm still waiting for my copy of SaGa Frontier to ship from Play-Asia. Gotta have that physical copy, ya know. I've heard there are some changes (namely carrying stuff over via New Game+) that really help in completing all the scenarios. I'm looking forward to that - not starting from scratch seems like it would be a real boon in getting to the finale of the new Fuse scenario.

MoulinoskiNice job beating FFL2, sounds like you had plenty of fun with the game. I'm chipping away at it slowly, but surely. 20-30 minute stints work well for me with this game, any longer than that and the encounter rate aggravates me too much. Yesterday I made it to the sewers in the Venus world.

Moulinoski Nice job beating FFL2, sounds like you had plenty of fun with the game. I'm chipping away at it slowly, but surely. 20-30 minute stints work well for me with this game, any longer than that and the encounter rate aggravates me too much. Yesterday I made it to the sewers in the Venus world. Yeah, the encounter rate in FFL2 is bonkers. I neglected to report that I also started The Final Fantasy Legend and it really feels like a downgrade compared to FFL2. I'm not sure if I'll continue playing it, if I'll just play the Wonderswan version (since I actually own that one), or just give it up in general since I don't have a history with it as I do with FFL2/3. Venus's World is where I got stuck and had to use a walkthrough to figure out what to do next. I don't think I got stuck anymore after that. Good luck with Venus's World. It shouldn't be too tough but I feel like the difficulty ramped up in that world and again in the next. In SaGa Frontier, I'm slowly inching my way through Red's story. It's funny, I was having so much trouble with a forced encounter of regular-ish enemies. One of them casted ice attacks. It did not occur to me for a while that maybe, just maybe, I shouldn't equip equip that lowers my ice defense (and I didn't need the fire defense it gave me). At least it got me to stat grind even if I had to do it super cautiously to avoid using up too much WP and LP. There are no healing spots at that point of the game (that I could see)! That's a great way to accidentally soft lock yourself there if you haven't been making several save files (which I haven't...). Thankfully I got through that tight spot and am progressing further on.

I recently beat TFFL myself, and yes FFL2 is a considerable evolution over it. So far I have not had to use a walkthrough, in stark contrast to TFFL which was ridiculously cryptic at times. I have noticed that enemies are hitting harder in the Venus world. I mainly need to stock up more gold to afford better armor for my human and mutant. However my party stays alive due to high stock of X-Cure and Cure books. Just a lot of healing after every battle right now.

Speaking of the Wonderswan, Robert Peip is working on an FPGA core for the system. Should be interesting!

I'm waiting for a MiSTer emulator, personally.

I’ve been playing SaGa Frontier, going through Red’s scenario. This game is willing to throw you to the dogs if you do not save often enough, don’t save in multiple slots, and don’t sometimes go against what the game teaches you. That last one bit me last night. There’s a part late in Red’s scenario where you’re stuck in a dungeon of sorts and have to make your way through rooms without backtracking to a room you’ve already been to. The game will tell you “9000, 8000, … 1000” with the idea being that you’d go through ten distinct rooms. Now, what happens if you mess up is that a boss battle occurs and win or lose you get a Game Over. If you manage to get through it perfectly? You get a boss battle with the same boss. I had no idea. I thought I messed up and I was stumped when I couldn’t figure out the right permutation. I looked it up and nope, I turned the game off when I had been correct. It’s just not immediately apparent that I’d gotten it right. Talk about frustrating! The funniest thing is that the game is just kind enough to tell you beforehand about the lose state.
Anyway, that really grounded my gears. It’s not enough to make me stop playing but it’s definitely something that I’ll keep in the back of my mind when I ever make a game of my own. Would it be fair to call it player hostile?

Are you playing via the remaster or the original version? I'm still waiting for my copy of the remaster to ship.

I’m playing the remaster on Switch. I’ve gotten up to the final boss for Red’s scenario but I was beaten. A combination of not enough WP and not enough HP led to my game over. Did you know that you can save right before the penultimate fight with no way to escape!

This... somehow does not surprise me. Oh Kawazu, you devil.
