True, I just wish I could set some global settings, but I know it's all case by case with the old stuff heh.

Ex: Why don't you like Myst? Was thinking of finally checking it out. Many people love Myst, it was a huge hit back in the day. It was also one of the first games to use fully CG rendered graphics intertwined with QuickTime video, and that had a lot to do with it. Basically there was a huge eye candy factor. For me, even playing the game in its time, I found it to be incredibly boring to play. The plot was barely there, puzzles were bland arbitrary crap, the world aesthetic made no sense - just a bunch of random elements thrown together. I really did not care for Myst at all, never finished it. The sequel Riven always looked much better, but I've not played it. But who knows you might love Myst (doubt it).

Well I sampled a few games and landed pretty hard on DESCENT! Always had a good feeling about this one, a blind spot in my 90's FPS catalogue. But the unique 6D style certainly makes it more unique than the norm.
It took awhile to battle the controls. I couldn't for the life of me figure out something comfortable with the mouse. Some people at GOG swear by a keyboard-only setup and that did seem more ideal. But honestly, a joystick/controller works flawlessly. I'm playing with the Descent Rebirth source port and it works perfectly with my Xbox Series controller. Mapped the joysticks as you would normally, then did stuff like L1/R1 spin in those directions, Y/A will lift you up or down, etc.
Playing on the default difficulty, 3/5. I could not find the exit in stage 2 during the escape sequence, but it still took me to stage 3 regardless.
Awesome aesthetic but the music is blowing me away. I thought for sure Bobby Prince was laying it down on track 2, but I guess it's just a coincidence of that old classic style. This is such a DN3D tune.

If somebody hasn't heard of it, I recommend the PC Gaming Wiki to find the optimal settings for a game or fix any issues.

Xeogred I am mildly surprised that you are enjoying Descent, but more power to you. I may be an outlier in that the game did not capture my interest when I originally played it. By the way, I originally played Descent when it first released. I do recall thinking the technical aspects of the game were impressive, so there's a positive. - Last night I installed some 1990s horror PC games to the old desktop PC I built back in 2005. So far I have installed Alone in the Dark 3, Phantasmagoria, Bad Mojo, Realms of the Haunting, and Heretic. (Granted Heretic isn't particularly a horror game, but it does have a dark aesthetic.) I tested all four to see if they'd run, and everything worked well except Heretic, not sure what's up with that one yet. The game I found myself immediately gravitating towards was Realms of the Haunting, it seems really impressive right out the gate. That said, RotH is 12 hours long according to HLTB, so I likely won't start that yet. I'm hesitant to start another long-ish game, when I'm trying to finish a 30+ hour long JRPG in tandem ( Digital Devil Saga). That said, HLTB says Bad Mojo is 3 hours long, Alone in the Dark 3 is 5 hours long, and Phantasmagoria is 6 hours long. So I think I'll hit those up first. It was good using my desktop PC again, I hadn't booted it in almost two years. Thankfully ol' Betsy cranked right up and was all HELL YEAH LET'S DO THIS SON.

It never quite endeared me, but never quite pissed me off, either. I stuck around for its authentic mid-90's software-rendered MS-DOS atmosphere.

I second anayo. I don't think it is bad, but the game is a classic 90s game.

I put a half hour into Bad Mojo (1996) last night. The premise is kinda interesting (human dude cursed becomes cockroach), and for its time the graphical presentation is strong. But the gameplay is paper thin and 100% trial and error with a lot of repetition. Turns out wandering around as a cockroach is about as fun as that sounds. Pass. I then put a half hour into Roberta Williams' Phantasmagoria (1995). I remember when this game released, it was a big deal due to all the FMV it uses. So I had it in my head this was an FMV game with limited choices as they usually were back then. But no, this is a classic point & click adventure that also happens to use a lot of FMV and digitized actors in general. This game was written and designed by the same person who wrote/designed the King's Quest series - except Phantasmagoria is horror. So far it's been a mildly interesting experience, but in the first thirty minutes I didn't come across anything horrific. I'm somewhat intrigued though and will play it some more tonight.
