They buffed pretty much everything to some degree. I remember being annoyed when even the lowliest scrub enemies took three hits to kill. Just tedious. >the puzzles could occasionally be obtuse and require some very precise timing/platforming I hit one or two puzzles that while not inscrutable, required such tight timing and precise maneuvering that they felt punitive rather than entertaining to solve. This is very much in the vein of many of Landstalker's crappy "puzzles".

I like Landstalker too, and its puzzles are a part of it. As in Alundra, the challenge is generally not in figuring out what to do, it's in actually executing it. In that sense, they're often more trials than puzzles, which makes sense given Nigel in Landstalker is an Indiana Jones-type explorer.

Anyone get around to some 1997 yet? I've got a few games picked out to play, plan to get to them in the latter half of this month.
But if this ends up being another month where only you and I finish any games for the theme, I'll be putting Club Retro on hiatus going forward.

Maybe back to the drawing board on figuring out ways to promote HRG or something. I guess I made the Twitter in May so it still hasn't been long but I'm not sure if it's generated any bots to check in here...
I remember in past forums things always slowed in the summer in general though, might just be that. Almost makes me think, next year we do a big 3 month summer theme? lol
I wonder if bi-monthly would work better for some of us oldies here. But I also wouldn't want to encourage stagnancy either in a sense... the quicker 1 theme per month leads to more exploration when people find the time for it. I'm certainly not perfect either, I know I miss out on some months every once and awhile. But I think there's easily been dozens of games I've played in recent years thanks to the monthly club, I might not have checked that stuff out otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I love Club Retro. It has lead to me playing some amazing and obscure games I wouldn't have otherwise. I've also learned lots about games from what other people played and discussed. But this is supposed to be a CLUB. You may be right that we should do like four themes that last three months each next year. That would give people more time to participate. The themes would have to be rather open ended to support such lengthy time though. And yes forums in general slow down in the summer. In the winter when it's too cold for much of society to want to be outside, then you see more folks staying indoors gaming and talking on forums.

I think folks have just gotten really busy lately, including myself. I mean, we're already almost halfway through August and I've only beaten 36 games this year.

True enough Sarge. And you've managed to beat more than me this year so far.

Some of that is shorter stuff, even! But I definitely haven't been on a heavy gaming groove as of late.

Fair enough man, fair enough. Moderation in all things.
