The three big existing arcs are: Chaos;Head -- humans who can manifest "delusions" into reality Steins;Gate -- time travel and the butterfly effect Robotics;Notes -- augmented reality Cool, well I do own these at least: If there are any related sequels or spin-offs to those that are worth owning, lemme know yo. With no hyperbole I'll say CiNG has made the best adventure games I've ever played. And I started playing this genre with Zork: The Great Underground Empire, so I've had a little experience with it. The main aspect that makes the CiNG games so good, was Rika Suzuki's writing. She was definitely the secret sauce behind the Kyle Hyde and Ashley Robbins games. But I also enjoyed Again: Interactive Crime Novel, a more obscure release by CiNG, and I'm not sure Suzuki had much to do with that one. Aside from the stellar writing, CiNG's games have excellent production values, both artistically and aurally. I don't want to raise expectations too high though, as some people don't care for CiNG's games at all. But for me they have all been amazing experiences. Also, I just remembered a couple more VNs I've beaten in the past ten years: Those two are from the Zero Escape series. I enjoyed them moderately, for me they are 7/10s. (I still gotta get around to playing Zero Time Dilemma to finish the trilogy.) Most people who play the ZE games are completely nuts about them and love them excitedly. They didn't grab me that hard, but I appreciate their tense atmosphere, palpable sense of danger, and high replayability. Unfortunately, I found those games' writing to be only "OK". Without getting deep into it, let's just say the people who were most blown away by the ZN games were people who were not well read in the science fiction genre. As the ZN games plagiarize popular sci-fi books aplomb, such as Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle for instance. But still, the Zero Escape series is certainly worth playing.

ExI'm chuckling a little bit as I just remembered that that "Science Adventure" GameFAQs page you linked me to was actually largely edited by, well.............. In any event, looking at those games you have........ Steins;Gate is pretty clean. The original is first, and then 0. Chaos;Child can technically be played as a standalone. In fact, it was localized well before its predecessor ( Chaos;Head) -- but now that it's available I highly recommend playing Head first. That's the first SciADV game period, anyway. All the Robotics;Notes you'll ever need is in that Double Pack. Note that those games are written under the assumption that the reader is familiar with Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head however! Also note that Robotics;Notes Elite is merely an enhanced port (the original is not localized). Meanwhile Steins;Gate Elite is a complete retooling, based on the anime. I've got the Zero Escape games and will get to them eventually. I'm certainly intrigued by Uchikoshi Koutarou's involvement. Interestingly, the third game ( Zero Time Dilemma) isn't included on the Visual Novel Database. Apparently it's much more interactive than the others.

I didn't think Hotel Dusk was all that great, but this thread got me thinking maybe I should play The Last Window. That piece of art is really moody in a way I like.

Here's VNDB's top rated VNs, btw. As rated by users. vndb.org/v?f=&s=34wIt's a pretty solid list. Of the ones I've played, I think they're worthy of being near the top. (The site's #1 and #2 are my personal #1 and #2). Some others I'm looking forward to playing, and others I have zero interest in. This is a fantastic site to utilize to find VNs. You can search by genres, topics, languages, platforms, release dates, etc. Really helped me formulate a wishlist.

I didn't think Hotel Dusk was all that great, but this thread got me thinking maybe I should play The Last Window. Some people liked the changes Last Window brought. Changes like: Faster pacing, more streamlined progression, the story falls over multiple days instead of one evening, the puzzles are more straight forward, the story is considerably darker. And... it has 9-ball pool and the Pinkie Rabbit Land mini-game.

Something mildly amusing I found while poking around the VN-centric corners of GameFAQs. A current user -- as in, someone who signed in just yesterday -- still has this as a signature:

I admire their perseverance. I played through Trace Memory's sequel Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories via legit UK disc on a USA Wii. I did so by using TinyLoad via the Homebrew Channel, which I had installed using LetterBomb. Another Code: R was 100% worth the effort.

Yep, I agree, very good game. I imported a copy myself with Ex's recommendation. And of course I really dug Trace Memory, so I knew I'd have a good time.
