I just love that hardboiled detective stuff in general. The Jake Hunter and Kyle Hyde games should be hits for you then. If those DS games are too expensive, ain't no shame in emulating them and there's two high quality DS emulators on PC now. Also L.A. Noire is a must play for the genre, you can play it on Switch. Granted it wasn't made by a Japanese studio, but it's still great fun. I never had a problem discerning perps' tells during interviews, but even if you do the plot is malleable.
I'm also interested in the J.B. Harold games, principally due to Rika Suzuki's involvement. There's a few that got official English localizations on TGCD and Android. Unfortunately, the entry I'm most interested in, Blue Chicago Blues, is only available in English on LaserActive (as far as I know). Not an ideal platform. You ever play the Deja Vu games on NES or GBC?

Yeah I have the first J.B. Harold on TGCD and the second on my Android tablet. Gonna stop after that one (for now) due to lack of availability.
I've been a big fan of Deja Vu for some time. Never played a console version though.

Good news -- Chaos;Head Noah UNBANNED from Steam. store.steampowered.com/app/1961950/CHAOSHEAD_NOAH/I started Trace Memory last night. Not a bad little game. Seems very point-and-clicky. Were it not Japanese I doubt there'd be any "visual novel" affiliation. I heard it's short so I'll try to power through it this week. Last VN I finished was Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse Remastered which was..... okay. Entertaining (at times) in a superficial way, but feels fan fiction-y in a way that many prequels and spin-offs do.

I started Trace Memory last night. Cool, will be interested in your thoughts when you finish it. Yeah, the Kyle Hyde games ( Hotel Dusk/ Last Window) are far more in the VN vein. By that I mean, the amount of text you read, and the lengthy protagonist/NPC discussion sections. >Last VN I finished was Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse Remastered which was..... okay.Did you play that on Steam? This thread encouraged me to load one of my DS Lites with DS adventure/VNs that I'd not yet played. It'd be cool to get around to some of those again, been a while since I've beaten a story/puzzle-driven game as such.

Steam is presently the ONLY place to get Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse in English, so yeah.
Speaking of handheld VNs and such, the 3DS eShop is closing in a matter of months right? Anyone who's into this genre should pick up these up before they're toast:
Chase: Cold Case Investigations ~Distant Memories~ Parascientific Escape trilogy Petit Novel Series - Harvest December

Okay, Trace Memory is done. It was okay, not great. I didn't like it enough to care about the sequel, which is actually a relief as I don't feel obligated to track down some PAL Wii release.
Some random thoughts............. -- Overall story was alright. Breezy and fun and clearly intended for a younger audience. Kinda contrived though -- some genius scientist just happens to do his research in the classic whodunit style Western manor? Lol okay. The "ghost" subplot seems kind of random and shoehorned in as an excuse to give the protag someone to talk to. -- The quality of the puzzles was all over the place and in general I didn't care for them. I desire to use a stylus as often as I desire to "waggle" a Wiimote. Which is to say: never. The simple puzzles were just comically easy while many of the harder ones were annoying. I also don't like being asked to BLOW into the DS like some kind of idiot. Though screaming "hoochie mama" or "big chungus" seems to have the same effect. The worst puzzle was the zoetrope one, which won't "work" (ie: properly trigger a future event) unless you view it for some indeterminant amount of time (it's also missing the completion jingle). I get held up at that spot for way too long. -- Aesthetics were mixed. I like the character designs and the point-and-click background art. The top-down navigation view is pretty ugly though. Music is pleasant enough. -- There are two endings? So says the internet. I dunno which one I got.

bonesnapdeezMany DS games want you to blow into the mic. I always just lightly rubbed my finger over the mic hole instead. The zoetrope puzzle is infamous. Fair enough criticisms but let me say: Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories is considerably better than Trace Memory. Don't let Trace Memory sour your interest in other CiNG adventure games. Remember it's the Kyle Hyde games that I laud so highly. I think Trace Memory is good, Another Code: R is great, but Hotel Dusk and Last Window are both excellent. And you said you enjoy noir detective stuff so Again could also be of interest.

Playing Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk on 3DS now. I like this one. It's relaxing and the aesthetics are cool. The fact that it has a dedicated smoke button is hilarious. I know some folks complain about how this type of game "plays itself" but I find it a breath of fresh air compared to some of the stupidly tough detective games I've played (like the "impossible without a walkthrough" Kara no Shoujo). Reminds me of something like Famicom Detective Club but more streamlined. You don't have to speak to everyone like five times kek.

Glad you're enjoying it so far. Yeah, it's not challenging, but it's still a fun read.
