Not really interested in a screen, RGB stuff, setting up profiles through some software, etc...

I'm eyeballing these two right now. Might spend some last remaining Xmas money on one of them. And yes I'm watching YT controller reviews lately as they pop up more and more. Is this Level 50 in Controller Obsession?

So why is my Gulikit Y button not seeming so stuck today? I did nothing to remedy the situation I posted about on Dec 10th. I guess the cellular DNA of the controller is feeling better today?
Anyways, I got three new controllers coming in so expect some reviews soon.
FLYDIGI Direwolf 2 - Received today. Seems amazing in my hands with better Hall Effect joysticks, tension wise, compared to the Gulikit and some early Hall Effect controllers. I figure I'd try this one out before the Vader 3 Pro since this one was cheaper. The raised d-pad is... interesting. Not sure I love it but I'll have to see it in use. Form factor is just like the Gulikit, Xbox One/X, which I prefer over the 8bitdo's smaller Ultimate controller. This one seems light but higher quality parts/build wise than the Gulikit.
In transit:
GameSir G7 SE
EasySMX® X10 Controller with Mechanical Buttons - really curious about this one because of the mechanical face buttons and triggers.

I am extremely happy with both the FLYDIGI Direwolf 2 and GameSir G7 SE so far. The GameSir G7 SE packaging was pretty premium compared to other gaming controllers I've gotten. Apparently this controller was designed by a kid, but I'm pessimistic about such things being goofy marketing tactics. They must have a deal with Xbox though as it's official branding and even has an Xbox/home button which is rare. Xbox controllers always work well with PC thesedays though and you need them for MS games, which is pretty crappy of them (can't play Halo and stuff with other controllers).
The joystick tension and quality is way better than the Gulikit and these are hall effects too, which is crucial for me now. Big plus there.
And unlike the Gulikit's weak face buttons and triggers, everything feels great on these two. Some textured grips and stuff in spots too. I kind of like the feel of the Direwolf 2 the most and it has an 8-way button d-pad like the Series X controller. Normal d-pad for the G7. So I'll need to give both the d-pad test eventually and hopefully they're good there too. For my tastes the modern 8bitdo controllers have stellar d-pads now. But I don't love the form factor of the Bluetooth Ultimate controller, it's smaller than you may perceive. The SNES/PlayStation 4 styled Pro 2 is a great pad, but I really have come to favor the offset sticks and Xbox form factor in the long run here. Hey, Xbox did something good for once!
It was vital for me to find great controllers like these that are big like the Xbox and Switch Pro. Very comfortable to my large hands. Important for me getting older and keeping my Finger/Hands HP up, especially after 6 years of a brutal data entry job.
So the Flydigi Vader 3 Pro interests me a lot now, since the form factor is like the Direwolf 2, but even more premium. The d-pad is apparently better and I'm real curious about the mechanical face buttons. Anyone ever used a controller with that for buttons?
I guess the EasySMX X10 is coming from China, so it'll take a bit to get here. That might be a red flag but most of these third party controllers, even 8bitdo I believe to some extent, are actually Chinese. Maybe they're finally using quality parts for once.
I'm talking to a wall here but ah well. I'll report back to myself with the 6 month update on these controllers and see how they hold up...

I'm talking to a wall here but ah well. People tend to only respond to stuff they can relate to. I for one don't share the controller lust gusto you do, but I do admire when someone has conviction for their hobbies. You made a meta hobby out of collecting controllers ancillary to just video gaming. I imagine someday you will find your holy grail gamepad.

Yeah I need someone else to nerd out with me about controllers. But hey everyone has their thing. Makes me think of people and instruments to an extent. Of course those are way more expensive, but my dad always had a couple of guitars around. Never just one.

Yeah, I'm pretty utilitarian when it comes to controllers, but I'm keeping your opinions on hand when I go looking for another.
I tell ya, though, I've been burned by so many third-party controllers over the years, it's pretty sad. Not many go in my pantheon of "great" controllers. Best ones I can think of were a Performance digital-only pad for PSX (awesome for fighters), the Logitech Wireless controller for PS2, an Afterglow 360 pad that has finally started to show stick drift on the analog (which isn't a biggie since I mostly used it as a d-pad controller), and... that's about it. Tried the bro's SN30 Pro 2 controller and it was great, much better than the first one.
Very much thinking about getting the Split Pad Pro for Switch. But if there's a Switch 2 coming soon... maybe I'll just hold off a bit. It's gotta release next year, right? RIGHT?!

The Hori Split Pad Pro is excellent. To the point I bought not one, but two backups. Light years more ergonomic than the standard Joy-Cons, especially if you have adult sized hands.

Don't have any major issues with it. No matter what it'll probably be heavy to hold for a bit. A texture grip would be nice though.
