I've played Blaster Master a bit... I find it cool, but very very difficult.

Have you played the 3DO version of Road Rash, or any of its ports? I've played Road Rash on Genesis and PS1, but never the 3DO version. I'll give it a shot next month. I think the 3DO one has also been ported to Playstation and Sega Saturn. It has definitely been ported to Windows 9X because I played that version in 2020. It does spread its content a bit thin to try and pass for a full length game, so I wouldn't beat it unless that's what your heart tells you to do. But definitely take it for a spin. I only hear them say good things about this game whenever anyone talks about it on the Internet

You seem to be on an NES/Fami kick lately and liked Metroid a lot, so I thought of that one. I wouldn't have any qualms if you use save states and or maybe eventually use a map. Unless you're playing on legit hardware... throw those ideas out haha.
Ex : Dodging the bazookas... you didn't like FEAR or Dead Space so I'm not on a good track record with my recs for you. So I thought, I'm pretty skeptical of Tomb Raider, thus maybe he'll actually like this one!?
I guess for now, how about you get a dose of some great Mega Man yourself?
Can't recall if you've played either of those. Easily overlooked, really dang cool stuff though.

I've played MMX1 and MMX2 (the GBC versions you posted), but I've not beaten them. On the portable MM note, I've also not beaten MM5 GB... which I've read is unique and a good time. These would all be good to play on my PowKiddy V90.

These would all be good to play on my PowKiddy V90. Growing up on NES Mega Man, it's hard for me to indulge in the GB games with the slower framerate, weirder physics, and bigger sprites. But MM5 won me over with its completely unique "space" theme. And then the Wily castle is like one huge level that was never done in the NES games. It's really cool. I hear IV is somewhat unique as well, maybe I'll give it a look someday. But the space theme for MM5 was freaking awesome.
The Xtreme games are like remixes of the X trilogy in both. You'll get X2 and X3 levels mixed in. It's staggering how good they feel and play. But they were super late GBC releases, had the hardware fully unlocked. It made me wish a Mega Man X game was made for the NES.
Xeogred There is a copy at my local game store for only $10... Maybe I'll pick it up lol What a steal. Legit one of my top favorite NES games. I think I like it even more than Metroid and I freaking love that game, haha.
But yeah, finite continues, monster difficulty curves as it goes, pretty big game for its style and era... thus save states might be ideal thesedays. Really wish it had some save/password system at least. I could get to the final stage as a kid but didn't beat it until years later. It was a perfect game to own as a kid though, played the heck out of it.
I replayed it again last year and kind of get on autopilot from playing and knowing it so well, but it still took me 2h8m to knock out.
Level 4, the MAZE! Level 5, better have guns at max or it always seemed like that boss was a soft lock. Level 6+... "Dev: Let's turn the difficulty up to 11!" it's just brutal from here on. lol, Level 8 is the true look and sound of 8bit Hell.

I recommend learning the game via emulation and save states, or at least use a Game Genie to remove the limited continues, because that's insane. It's a long game if you don't know exactly where you're going, and once you get the wall climbing stuff, the platforming gets very fiddly in the final areas.
Also, it sure does appear my 360 disc drive is almost toast. I haven't even used it that much! Guess it's just like my PSX, it was working great when I put it up, but is super sketchy now. Oh, original hardware, how I both love and hate thee. On the plus side, I totally know how to disassemble a fat 360 now.

I just remember taking any damage in the top down areas and losing power being very demoralizing. I hate that mechanic.

Sums it up man... but even my replacement Slim 360 seems kind of funky thesedays too. My original Xbox is still rock solid though.
And yeah that's another feature I wish Blaster Master had, letting you turn off some of the upgrades. It's almost like they designed Level 8 with the knowledge that the wall/ceiling climbing would make platforming all the trickier there... it's terrifying really.
Kazin : Yeah, you want fully upgraded guns and never want to get hit haha. Unless you have to try and tank a boss at some point.
Feel like I'm selling someone against Blaster Master at this rate. It's freaking great but yeah, no doubt it's a very tough game and probably not very welcoming to newcomers.
