I appreciate the system list - I'm going to try to dabble both with systems I have played and stuff I haven't, like the SG-1000, which I saw Jeremy Parish play on his YT channel. There were a few games that looked interesting, though I can't recall offhand lol

Yeah, I've been enjoying his retrospectives on the NES and its competitors at the time.

Alright, so Dragonfire is pretty boss. Has that great early 80s Atari "fantasy" aesthetic. I'm playing on the 2600, though the game is multiplat and I also have a more advanced CoCo port. Imagic is the developer here; I consider them one of the stronger developers of this era. Right up there with Activision and Atari themselves. So each stage is split into two discrete segments. The platforming segments have you steer a guy right-to-left (hey it was 1982) into a castle. There are fireballs to avoid by jumping and ducking. One small issue here is that the fireballs themselves emerge from the castle entrance you're running towards and if your timing is a bit off you can get burned right as you enter. Just gotta get a proper sense of timing to avoid this. The other segments involve plundering the dragon's treasure in a top-down mode. Here the dragon (now onscreen) shoots fire in a vertical manner towards the top of the screen. Once all treasure is collected an exit door appears. Interestingly, you can also "hide" in the door you came from. Game gets harder and faster as it progresses. I dig it. I also own the Zellers clone (Dragon Treasure) which as far as I can tell is literally the same game.

I might want to mess with a little Moon Patrol again. It may prove interesting for you to check out some of the other release platforms (there could be design variations): Also the "clones" that came out around that time, might be interesting with whatever unique aspects they introduced: Dragonfire is pretty boss. What a nostalgia hit that was. I had completely forgotten about this game, but the screenshot and your description brought make memories of playing it. I cannot remember what platform I played it on, or even when and where. But have definitely played Dragonfire at some point in my childhood. Probably the 2600 version and a friend's house in elementary school days.

Moon Patrol is awesome. Played a bunch on my Switch in 2018 when it hit the Arcade Archives.
I dig the 2600 port too, largely because they managed to retain the soundtrack!

Yeah, I played a good amount of Dragonfire at my cousins' house. It's definitely one of the stronger 2600 games - Imagic really did put out some great games.

bonesnapdeez it impresses me that the 2600 version manages to have rudimentary parallax scrolling. IIRC the arcade version of Moon Patrol was the very first game to utilize parallax scrolling. That was a big visual wow factor at the time.

Looks like Pitfall in a car with guns... I like what I'm seeing.
I always did like Pitfall too.

Joust is still really solid today. Played the arcade version, set the high score on my first run. 44850. Pretty sure I could do better, but that counts!
Also, so many of these early arcade games used rotated monitors. It was annoying finding one that isn't rotated on my CRT, haha.
