Williams had some cool games. Alongside Joust there was Defender, Stargate, Sinistar, Robotron 2084, and of course......... Bubbles. Was a fun time with American and Japanese developers trading blows for arcade dominance.

Yeah, I just played some of Sinistar, but I can't do much on a rotated screen. I need to hook the HDMI output back up on the MiSTer. I did just have a really good Mario Bros. run, made it to Stage 9 with a score of 71770.
Anyone know what constitutes "beating" that game?

I generally consider these old games "beaten" when I feel like I've seen everything there is to see and looping with little variation has begun. Some folks have documented the subtle stage differences in some of these older games though. Here's Mario Bros. strategywiki.org/wiki/Mario_Bros./Walkthrough

I was about to ask when does someone consider a looping 2nd gen game to be "beaten". I guess when it loops.

So is the Atari 7800 legal for this theme?

So is the Atari 7800 legal for this theme? It's considered a third generation console. Suitable for the next Club Retro.

That was so weird messing with that for a second. Needed a bios. Mapping "Reset" to a button lol, but then some games still weren't working (button input wise) since I think some Atari games had various controllers... I have no freaking clue. People thought Xbox name schemes were weird? 2nd gen throwing me for a loop...
I'll focus on the 2600 for now then.

I'll focus on the 2600 for now then. I know you're a controller buff, so you might like this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09B349TDZ/I bought one for myself 'cause playing Atari 2600 games with a d-pad is just wrong. And Atari 2600 manuals: Also found a great site for nabbing Intellivision manuals and overlays(!):

Hah, that is pretty cool. I'm doing some light research tonight... think I'm going to be more of an Intellivision/Colecovision guy. Adventure seems cool and one I want to really sit down with. Atlantis was cool. 2600 Mario Bros is nasty...

Yeah, the 7800 was a weird system. Was announced in '84, but didn't launch until '86 after Nintendo brought the games market back. Turned out that it didn't help since Nintendomania was sweeping the nation.
Agree that Intellivision/Colecovision had games closer to what we actually enjoy. I remember liking my Intellivision quite a lot, especially something like Sea Battle.
