Intellivision/Colecovision had games closer to what we actually enjoy. While I can't speak for you or Xeogred, I quite enjoy the Atari 2600 personally. Loved the console as a kid, and am still finding new (to me) 2600 games that impress me (given the minimal hardware) to this day. My respect for the Intellivision has also risen as I've learned more about its library in recent years. Unfortunately, I literally knew no one who owned an Intellivision in real life growing up, just seemed like everybody had an Atari 2600. The Atari 2600 was the prolific NES of its generation. Looking back at my HLTB, here's some good 2nd gen stuff I've beaten within the last decade: Beneath Apple Manor (Apple II) Dragon Stomper (Atari 2600) gamefaqs.gamespot.com/atari2600/584695-dragonstomper/reviews/167514Halloween (Atari 2600) Hangman (Atari 2600) Haunted House (Atari 2600) Venture (Colecovision) gamefaqs.gamespot.com/colecovision/563264-venture/reviews/167599Video Chess (Atari 2600) gamefaqs.gamespot.com/atari2600/585243-video-chess/reviews/169448

I was going through this a bit last night:
I can see how there's still a different charm to the 2600 and know I played some stuff from that era in some form.
It's pretty weird how the 5200 is a huge step up and basically a next generation like upgrade. But what was "next gen" back then? haha.
I have to find another source for Intellivision/Colecovision games. Hopefully other places that have like a top 10, or top 10 random downloads. I think that'll be my method for exploring this generation. Going in quite blind!

Nintendo's Popeye is a pretty intriguing game. A jumpless platformer with plenty of gimmicks and level variation. I find it much harder than Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr.
This is also a good time to play the "lost" Nintendo game, Sky Skipper.

Emulation Station is currently scanning the 2012 roms I put on my Steam Deck to add art and descriptions for the full sets of roms I downloaded for the 2600, 5200, 7800, Colecovision, Intellivision, and Vectrex. I'm going to mess around with various games for those systems tonight and I'll post my thoughts here. Looking forward to it!

Enough Dragonfire for the time being... I'm playing this now and it's pretty wild... There was a whole host of these space combat sims released back in the day, with varying degrees of quality. Star Raiders is probably the best known.

I've literally never played a Vectrex game, I may get to those next month. You ever play any of its games before? Star Raiders is probably the best known. And Space Shuttle: A Journey into Space is likely the most complex (of the 2nd gen I mean). - I'm hoping to have time for some 2600 stuff tonight.

My hot take: the Vectrex is overrated. The scarcity and uniqueness of the hardware/graphics make it look cooler than it is. Small game library consisting largely of ports of Cinematronics arcade games.
It's not a bad system by any means, but probably about even with the Odyssey^2 in terms of overall quality of the game selection. Atari 2600, Intellivision, and ColecoVision are really the big three of this gen. Everything else is miles behind.

I thought it was super cool, but didn't get a lot of time with it, so thought I'd revisit some of it's stuff again. Never emulated it before, I feel like I'm going to miss the unique look of the screen haha

I should probably try out some Vectrex stuff on the MiSTer. Will need to hook the HDMI back up, pretty sure the core doesn't support 15 KHz CRT.
