I agree the first Tenchu is excellent, especially for its time. My only complaint is the final boss is BS, but overall it's a truly great ninja game.

Wow, I didn't know Virtual Hydlide was that short. I know speedruns of it are under an hour, though.

I never counted it, but it makes sense. Unlike Super Hydlide, there is no town or NPCs, just an overworld and dungeons. I think on the Normal your map indicates which dungeons you can visit next. Otherwise it'd pretty much be an overworld. I rented it a few times and would beat it over a weekend, so 4-5 hours makes sense, cause I think I'd pick it up on Saturday and have to bring it back on Sunday evening.

Its controls can take a minute to grok, but it's got a lot of atmosphere. TOMB RAIDER
Never gonna let this one go with you guys...
I should give Tenchu a shot myself.

I should give Tenchu a shot myself. Well worth playing. Just know the original Tenchu: Stealth Assassins leans closer to Thief than Ninja Gaiden.

I might try to run with Tomb Raider, we'll see. Looks like I have it running correctly in OpenLara on the Deck. Now to figure out if I can actually do "save anywhere" or not.
EDIT: Apparently yes, it's mapped to "5" and "9". Got it on the back bumpers now.

Nah you can only use the checkpoints like I did Sarge ... your gamer cred hits level 99 then.
But here I am save stating away in TR3. I just did the London Aldwych level and it took me TWO HOURS. Had to look up more than one spot after a point too. Dungeon crawler game levels be damned, this area was insane.
And yet I loved it too, both these London levels so far. This level was an abandoned underground subway station and was almost scarier than Silent Hill 3's own subway level. This has to be the closest Tomb Raider has ever felt to being pure survival horror, I see plenty of other comments thinking the same. With how popular Resident Evil and the genre was back then, I do kind of assume TR was maybe inspired by them here and there.
This was the levels ambiance and what I heard for two hours in this labyrinth, jolting from a jump scare from some rapid dog, while fighting giant rats and homeless thugs with bloody spikes baseball bats.
Here's the previous London level that was oozing in atmosphere too.
Incredible stuff.
The next level is apparently a least favorite for many, so I'm excited to see what I think. So far TR3 continues to be amazing and I'm probably only coasting by because TR1-TR2 conditioned me. It's no wonder I see posts out there of people talking about when they were a kid that they got stuck on level 2, or so many gave up deeper into this game, a level took them weeks/months... none of this surprises me. TR3 is freaking hardcore just like the first two and even mainstream IP's back then like Tomb Raider demanded respect and far more from the average player.
My stats so far, this is NOT the in game stat pages I'm getting. But I screenshot those for my own reference:
Tomb Raider III Jungle: L1 Jungle - 9:30 - 10:40 = 1h10m L2 Temple Ruins - 2:40 - 4:30 = 1h50m L3 The River Ganges - 9:20 - 9:50 = 30m L4 Caves of Kaliya - 9:50 - 10:15 = 15m Nevada: L5 Nevada Desert - 10:15 - 11:20 = 1h5m L6 High Secuirty Compound - 7:00 - 8:20 = 1h20m L7 Area 51 - 7:30 - 9:15 = 1h45m London: L8 Thames Wharf - 8:45 - 9:45 = 1h L9 Aldwych - 8:25 - 9:55 = 1h30m + 10:00 - 10:30 = 2 HOURS!

Weird issue with OpenLara - I can map the triggers but they refuse to work. Knew I had to be missing something, those are crouch and dash.

TR3 LONDON LEVEL 3: LUD'S GATE WORST LEVER Sounds like you hit a temporary show stopper, much like me with this one puzzle in b.l.u.e.. Haven't played the game in two nights because I don't want to deal with that puzzle. But tomorrow night I might get back at it. I'd like this particular notch on my gamer belt, but b.l.u.e. is definitely not the kind of underwater exploration game I was hoping it would be.
