The theme for September and October is "Sixth Generation Games". We are playing video games released during the sixth generation of the video game medium. The "sixth generation" is roughly defined as occurring from 1998 (Dreamcast release) through 2005 (Xbox 360 release).
Sixth generation gaming platforms (according to GameFAQs):
Dreamcast Game Boy Advance GameCube Gizmondo GP32 N-Gage Neo Geo Pocket Neo Geo Pocket Color Nuon PlayStation 2 WonderSwan Color XavixPORT Xbox Zodiac
If you want platform specific genre recommendations, we got 'em.

Going to enjoy this one a lot - there's some fantastic titles on all those systems.
If y'all are interested in NGPC games, my favorites are:
- Faselei! - Sonic Pocket Adventure - SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash - SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium
Also, for those that haven't played Drill Dozer on GBA... go do that. It's Game Freak outside of their usual Pokemon milieu, and it's a much more successful game than Pulseman on Genesis, which looks the part but is ultimately frustrating in a lot of ways.

XeogredAll winners except MMBN, but you be the judge. (BTW FromSoftware's mecha mania Metal Wolf Chaos is a sixth gen game...) I agree with Sarge that Faselei! (highly unique pocket mecha SRPG), Sonic Pocket Adventure, and Drill Dozer are excellent games. I plan to focus on shorter offbeat action stuff, but I might, just maybe, finally get around to finishing FFX.

The theme for July and August is "Sixth Generation Games". We're so hardcore and retro that we do summer in the fall. Who needs time to move forward, anyway? I have a million possible candidates, mostly for PS2, as well as a couple of Dreamcast games. I already know at least one game I'd really like to play in October, probably around the end of the month.

Oh, btw, my longshot rec for this theme is The Ring for Xeogred . I reviewed it a year or two back, it's a survival horror for Dreamcast that's kind of low-budget and was ill-received at the time (by those few that didn't ignore it). But I found it legitimately good, with an interestingly weird atmosphere and intriguing story. It's not an adaptation of the movie The Ring (or Ringu if you prefer, ie the Japanese original), but rather a sequel of the novel it's based on, much like Parasite Eve did. It takes place during a few days in an office building locked down for a quarantine due to a virus on your first day of work. At various times, you connect to the cursed Ring network, which purports to be a futuristic game in which you explore a basement area where monsters and the undead roam... but what's really going on? And what happened to your husband, who died just before referring you for this job? At the time I recommended to set the cameras to Type A in the options menu from the title screen, because the default cameras suck.

Looks terrible! Huh this part looks kind of neat. Horrible... I like the vibe here.
Those were my very mixed emotions skimming a video. But it does look kind of more interesting than yet another RE clone I haven't played yet (stuff like Blue Stinger just looks kind of eh to me now, not sure if I truly missed out on anything with games like that).
Oh wow, I thought Metal Wolf Chaos was 7th gen.

Nope, MWC was definitely an XBOX game, although it looks really good. Quite a few XBOX titles felt like they were pushing into the next gen. My understanding is that the PS4/XB1/PC port doesn't enhance a whole lot from the original release, so it's probably okay as an option if you don't have an XBOX lying around.

This title and boxart has always stuck out to me more. But... is the game good? I have no idea haha. FromSoftware was pumping them out left and right then, even between the deluge of Armored Core.
