Made a quick run of Double Dragon's arcade version. I still think it's a great game, but maaaaaan does it slow down in non-bootleg versions. Probably an 8/10 (in this form), and obviously a very important game for belt-scrollers.

Always interesting to try variants of beloved games. Double Dragon alone... The other day I was reading about the differences concerning the MSX2 version of Contra. Konami made that version too, but they still did some things differently than the NES classic.

Double Dragon was such a monster hit. Shame it doesn't seem to have made Technos rich. I'd guess the American and European publishers made most of that money.

Dude's passionate about eggs. I think the point is more that to someone who can't read Korean, a word that doesn't mean anything important (like "egg") can appear mystifying and significant to us because the script has an exotic shape. We speak English, so "Girly Block" sounds ridiculous to us. But maybe to a Japanese person those words appear more like lorum ipsum. It could also be like how J.R.R. Tolkien mused that the words " cellar door" sound beautiful to people who speak English even though the object that word is describing is mundane and unimportant.

2c) Warcraft II: Beyond The Dark Portal (human campaign) 26) The Operative: No One Lives Forever 27) Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3DVideo coming soon. Detailed thoughts and impressions coming soon. Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D is awesome! It's a vehicular combat game where you enter a map and complete objectives within the map. I'm reminded of the flight sim genre which was really prevalent in the 90's, and even of Mechwarrior 2 somewhat. However unlike those, Rogue Squadron is way more approachable and arcade-like. Rogue Squadron has an excellent "game feel" where the kinesthetic experience of piloting a craft just feels "right". The underpinning mechanics and controls are ineffably fun, so everything built on top of that just works. I loved putting enemy tie fighters and infrastructure in my crosshairs and blowing them up. This game made me think about playing it throughout the day when I was away from my PC. I give this game my ringing endorsement and encourage everyone to play it.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D is great, I agree. Now play Ace Combat 5 and be blown away.

Is the PC version basically a more performant version of the N64 game? Y'all have probably answered that before, but darn if I can remember.

You can play the PC one at something like 1024 x 768 if you want. I don't think N64 can do that. If Ace Combat 5 is anything like Rogue Squadron 3D then I will.

I was more just wondering if it's the same game, unlike, say, the PC versus console versions of Powerslave, for instance. Looking around, it looks like it was a pretty straight port, though, but with better performance and resolutions as you say.

I think Shadows of the Empire is a straight port too, though the PC version has better audio quality and full tracks. Guess the N64 had to segment the songs a bit to get on that cart.
It was cool when we had a lot of Star Wars games. Those were the days.
