I think you'd like SNES The Movie one. It was jarring at first but then felt really good when I got into it. More depth to it for sure.
I just cleared the Genesis beat em up'. About 55 minutes for this one. It's on par with the first SNES game I'd say. Nothing amazing here but not bad either, though there's some nipticks on this one. Same enemy type throughout an entire level as toei said, which is really weird for a beat em' up. They change a bit as the story speedruns through things, but yeah. Then you fight Goldar (flying gold guy) about three times worth and it was freaking terrible. One of those flying bosses that just takes forever. The Zord boss battles were kind of clunky too. It's weird how you don't "beat" half the bosses, once they have low health they fly off screen and the level is over. Maybe you can beat them if you're quicker than I was though? Also one later level had a bunch of fireballs dropping from above constantly. Felt impossible to really dodge them. Kind of lazy random game design. Some nice production here and cool music, but they could have refined a lot of the stuff under the hood to make a better game. The SNES "movie" game is definitely better in my book.
I didn't care to stick with the Genesis fighting game.
I'll give those GBA ones a look.
There's a racing game for the SNES too... for some reason.

One quality of the Genesis game is how smooth the movement is, though. It's a shame the level/enemy design didn't live up to it, because the basics were there. I've definitely played the SNES game before, and thought I'd maybe beaten it, but my old list says no. Maybe it's the difficulty that you mentioned, or there was something I didn't like about it. I'll find out soon, I guess.

Just try to stick it out past the first level, which took me like three attempts to really get into it or care haha. After that it was smooth sailing though.

Jewel Master (Gen) ~60 minutes
It's like Altered Beast meets Shinobi meets Castlevania, with the ring customization system. I stuck with the Ice Dagger the most, especially in enclosed levels once it was upgraded some, that thing shredded through normal enemies and covered some good range. The High Jump was really good too, then upgraded to the Double Jump. Later on I noticed how powerful that Fire Dragon spell was, whatever it was called. It was like a fire snake that did a lot of damage. The levels, platforming, graphics, music were all really good. The last boss was ass though, getting kind of annoyed with that lately lol. But yeah, definitely a must play Genesis game here overall.

Yeah, those SNES Power Rangers games are surprisingly good.

Xeogred I never use save states to cheat, but it Jewel Master after a while I ended up using one before the final boss so I could practice it without having to redo the whole level (the game's one real flaw IMO) or the whole game, then once I was able to beat it I did a full run legit. But yeah, really cool game with that early Genesis vibe.

Yeah. I ended up using save states in the final area to try and get to the final boss with the most health possible. The floating head part ticked me off the most. Just couldn't figure out a rhyme or reason to it and it did tons damage when he bumped into you. Somehow got it after a dozen or two tries. The difficulty was pretty solid up to that point. Good bosses and everything.

But yeah, definitely a must play Genesis game here overall. Very respectable beat, and I agree the final boss is ass. Having this one under your belt will make Eternal Ring all the more enjoyable.

Jewel Master is so dope. I should give it another go, never beaten it.

I completed the post-game in Nayuta. Story-wise, it's not very necessary (though it's nice to revisit the town at first) - it's all about giving you more of the game. You technically only have to go beat a big two-part boss, but it is recommended that you be around Level 50 to fight it, which you won't be - you'll be in the mid-to-upper '30s. In order to get there, and get the new best equipment (and a few more spells and skills along the way), there are 12 new stages. Though they have new enemies and elements, they do feel like more of the same. But more of the same is still good in that case. You should also fight souped-up versions of four bosses you've fought before, which was less interesting, for the ultimate sword. Then you'll be around level 50 and you can fight that new final boss, which is a cool couple battles, especially the first one (and one you have to fight without magic), again with their own little unique gimmick/mini-puzzle you have to figure out to get to them. And that's it, you get a new ending. There's more new stuff that unlocks if you do a New Game+ from there, but I'm not replaying the whole game just for that. I would play the extra levels alone, though. Anyway, while not essential, I'd say that extra chapter is worth doing. The whole thing takes about 6 hours.
