Speaking of the superior non-humanoid enemy types, I hope Ex gets around to Dead Space in 2019. It'll be on your top 10 that year. LOCK IT IN!
Also @tsumuri , don't forget the Tactics Ogre series (which branches off from Ogre Battle). Not a popular opinion, but I prefer the TO games to FFT. You generally get to control ~10 units (maybe even more on TO PSP) per battle, instead of FFT's dinky 2-5 units per map. Yep MORE IS BETTER!!!
The original Ogre Battle on SNES looks insane. I've heard it's best to study up on some of the cards, systems, lore, or something before even going in. It's completely different from the grid based FFT/TO style of SRPG's and looks like a more pure strategy/table top simulator of sorts. Definitely looks cool but very different and experimental.

I already posted my playlist in the "random retro gaming thoughts" topic, so I won't repost it here, but I would like to mention that in 2019 I want to spend fewer of my gaming hours playing online free-to-play games. I'm OK with playing retail Nintendo Switch games with a defined beginning, middle, and end, but I've always had personal time management problems with competitive online games. I want to experience more of my retro catalog and the aforementioned type of game is holding me back from that. So... is that YOU playing Fortnite on the Switch all the time? I couldn't remember if you had kids or not and wondered if that was the case. Also bit of a weird user name if I'm being honest.
I love "Objectives" instead of "Goals", haha. I'll have to think of some good ones and we can maybe reflect back on the 2018 thread of goals, pretty sure we had one.
Hi my name is Anayo and I have a fortnite problem.

(maybe even more on TO PSP) per battle, instead of FFT's dinky 2-5 units per map. Yep MORE IS BETTER!!! The PSP version sometimes lets you get up to like 14 units on your side, with something like 16 on the enemy side. I didn't find this "more is better" concept to be true there. Rather more units just served to drag out the already boring battles into being even longer, even more boring battles. Sorry man, I'm just not a fan of Tactics Ogre... even though I did at least finish the PSP version. (Yes I understand you believe the SFC version is superior.) Guys, we need an intervention with our man here! If the glory of the NES can't fix it, nothing can.

Xeogred Yeah, we definitely had a 2018 goals thread. I was thinking of looking back on it in your own thread about this past year, but not before the last days of December. I do find the real-world military setting really boring, but I like fighting human (or humanoid) opponents. One thing I always enjoy, in fact, is fighting bosses that have similar abilities to your own. One of the things that annoyed me in Arc the Lad 2 was how every human would turn into a monster before you fought them. I just wanted to fight people! Speaking of Arc the Lad, the only fight that wasn't super easy was the final battle, where you fought shadow versions of your own team, with the exact same stats as you. That was fun, and actually required some planning.

I don't remember if I had any goals last year. I do plan on getting some games out of the backlog. I still need to play through Shadow Hearts. I've also been in a little bit of a PlayStation mood recently; maybe I should give it and the Saturn a little more love.
I also plan to branch out and play through at least one recommended title here that's out of my comfort zone. Last year, those ended up being Quake, Thief Gold, and King's Field IV. A little variety never hurt anyone! I'd also like to at least poke at some of the microcomputer offerings and see what's worth playing, especially the MSX and C64.
EDIT: Survey says yep. I didn't do as well on my goal last year of... hitting up the microcomputer space. Heh. It's a goal again this year. I did do well on the Duo side, though, playing through six Super CD titles (including Dungeon Explorer II) and three TG-16 games (Bonk's Adventure, Legendary Axe 1/2).

Sarge : I still think Deus Ex would really be up your alley, probably more than most FPS's for you. It's kind of comparable to Bioware's stuff like KOTOR, etc. Lots of character interactions and such, the combat really isn't the focus.
I'm thinking I should make a goal to give the Genesis more love next year. And (as always) try to knock down more of my PS2 library.

I was thinking of some Genesis stuff, too. I have it hooked up to a TV I don't use much, so I should consider flipping a few systems out so I give it more time.
I find the whole feeling of PS2 now being retro kinda weird. I mean, it is, but man. I finished up my undergrad when that came out, so I remember those days really well. And there are certainly a ton of games I haven't finished there that are worth playing. I feel like that's the generation where the 3D set really started to mature over the clunkiness of most of the PSX/N64 era.

Yeah, but I've always been considering a Shadow Hearts playthrough, given my love of Covenant. Deus Ex would be the more impressive feat, given it's a bit further afield than my usual gaming predilections.
