That's more than I thought. I've got a few, but I've scavenged some parts so I don't think I have too many that fully work left, and I don't have a lot of hookups.

You can certainly find some cheaper, but they are mostly beat up and sold as-is and untested.

Has anyone here ever played Dragon Force? Nope but I'd be interested in your opinion of it. I have long seen Dragon Force bandied about as an excellent Saturn SRPG. But turns out most folks that praise Dragon Force never actually finished it. Hmmm. I assume the sequel is of equal merit and thankfully we have an English patch for it.

That's all I really have on Dragon Force too, often see it listed among the top of some fan favorite lists and YouTubers, etc. The combat/gameplay certainly looks unique. Maybe like if the Suikoden strategy/war battles actually had some depth to them haha. Just the vibe I get though.
The Dragon Force Euro power metal band cracks me up. Was always impressive when some friends of mine could pull some of their songs off in Guitar Hero, lol.

I've listened to all of Dragonforce's albums over the years, haha. I think they've got another one coming out pretty soon.

Anyone into real old school dungeon crawlers?
I played a few hours of Shining in the Darkness last summer. There's something about that game that I really like, despite how archaic it might be by today's standards. Exploring the dungeons is a little tense because you feel like you're always one wrong step away from death. And the lack of an in-game map makes it hard for me to play. I can get the map in my mind's eye as I explore. But like we were recently talking about, if I stop playing it for a few days than it's really hard to get back into. That map doesn't stay in my mind's eye for very long LOL. Probably because I have to fill my head with all these adult responsibilities. I'd really like to restart it and give it another go at some point, but I'll have the same problem as before. LOL maybe I should save it for retirement?

I won't say I've gotten into anything too hardcore yet, but I did play Phantasy Star 1 a year ago or so. Granted it was the Sega Ages version that has a nice automap. It is crazy to imagine playing that without that like kids did back then haha.
I've also been getting deep into the Shin Megami Tensei games. They tend to be more challenging than your average JRPG, with a heavy emphasis on pure gameplay/dungeons (especially compared to Persona, which look way more story focused). SMT3 had some seriously awesome dungeons and the one I'm playing now, SMT Strange Journey, has the biggest and most complex labyrinths I've seen in these yet. I do need the gameplay to be interesting though. What I mean by that is that I fell off playing the PSX version of SMT1 a year or two ago. It's charming for a good handful of hours, but the battles and RPG mechanics are a little too one note with the older ones. From SMT3 and on this series has been pure bliss to me though. They generally come with a map that fills in as you explore. I cannot emphasis enough how amazing that dopamine is for me, lol. Love filling out maps (I'm getting that with Ys 8 too lately).
King's Field and Shadow Tower fit the bill too I'd say. I beat them all within the last few years. Incredible stuff. There are no maps whatsoever in the Shadow Tower games, like modern Souls games. So that was pretty intense. The KF maps can be a bit hard to read too, but I like how they seem like an actual in-game artifact the explorers of those worlds crafted up. So it has that cool immersive edge, rather than getting some awkwardly clean 2024 perfectly symmetrical grid in your old RPG. lol
