I'll never get the slant against SoR3. Mechanically I think it's probably the best beat em' up ever made and feels incredible to play. I just give the win to SoR2 since I like the stages/music a bit more. But the addition of running and dashing moves in SoR3 is a game changer.
I dig Final Fight 1 a fair bit. I dare anyone to beat the Sega CD version, which doesn't give you very many lives/continues and I don't think you can edit that option much.
Final Fight 2-3, I feel like I've replayed more than once each over the last several years just to triple reconfirm how forgettable I think they are. They're definitely competent and fun, also extending all the moves, but man. Even as a Capcom fanboy sometimes, I completely forget about these two games minutes after beating them. Glad I never forked up a lot for those carts.

Mechanically, SoR3 is fine. It's the balance changes from the Japanese version, making it much, much harder than SoR2. If it were cheaper, I'd look at importing a Bare Knuckle 3 cart.

See, I just grew up playing SoR3, talking like 20 years ago since that's one of my fondest Genesis memories when my family lived on a military base and all. And as a kid, I was able to legit beat it a few times after awhile, true endings and all. Nowadays I've ran through the Bare Knuckle 3 version and can see how people prefer it, but man what can I say, I grew up playing the hard version and that's what I'm used to.
And yes... I think when I last replayed Final Fight 2-3 awhile back (recent enough I talked about it here somewhere), I was grinding Final Fight CD for like a week. I could get very far and into the final stage, but it was too freaking unfair. I got my revenge by beating the SNES version again, but even that one is pretty brutal too. The difficulty really skyrockets in this one the further you go and a lot of the bosses can shave your entire health bar in a blink, a bit cheap honestly. But it's a classic I still dig and respect.

I also think both SOR1 and 3 are underrated. Agreed about 3 being mechanically better than 2. The roll! The roll makes boss fights way more fun. Combined with everybody being able to run now (instead of just Skate), you can really maneuver around bosses now. The fight against Shiva especially feels like a proper duel.
Increasing the difficulty in FF3 does nothing but give enemies more HP, making the game longer necessarily. It changes stats, but not enemy behavior, or least not noticeably. They're still as passive. The original Final Fight is the only really good game in the series, on the condition that you play the arcade original, or a really good port (ie NOT the SNES version). You need the intensity of it to make it come alive. 2 is the worst. Mighty is so-so.
On the topic of Technos, I don't think they ever made a bad beat-'em-up (even Renegade is good on the Master System). The only one I never finished or got into is Shadow Force. I guess their main staff had moved on by then, though (Kunio tachi no Banka was developed by Almanic, but that company is where the original Kunio/Double Dragon creator had ended up).

I really dig SoR1, yeah. Simple, but something feels right about it. Also, the soundtrack, in my opinion, is better than the excellent SoR2.

I like the little things about it, like how finishing enemies just sends them flying away, with that harsh sounding death cry. Or the good 'ol beer bottle. It's also harder than 2, but a little better balanced than 3US. Very consistent level design. And yes, great soundtrack.

I'd put Final Fight 3 above it, as well as The Ninja Warriors. I agree those two are better than Turtles in Time. Here's some unpopular opinions when it comes to SNES beat 'em ups, I legit enjoy all three of these: Gourmet Sentai Bara Yarou (AKA Gourmet Warriors) Super Double DragonUndercover Cops (Not as great as the arcade version, but not a bad port.) And Final Fight 3... well, it's a lot better than 2, but it's far, far too easy. Every enemy in the game is just a punching bag with legs, which makes the game boring in the long run. They literally almost never attack you. Have you tried changing Final Fight 3's difficulty level to Expert yet?

I'm pretty sure I did try expert. Like I said, long health bars, same boring enemy behavior. Also both Sarge and I like Super Double Dragon, so it seems like that's not controversial on this forum, anyway. Gourmet Sentai is a lower-tier stuff. Undercover Cops is generally well-liked, but it's too frustrating to be good.

I actually should give Gourmet Warriors a go again.
Also, I think I beat it back in the day (via emulation), but there was a hack-and-slasher called Legend on the system, and it's super slow. If memory serves, the only reasonable way to attack was your jump kicks.
