I like Yahtzee and have been watching his show weekly for years.
I've never understood the hate; I don't think he tries to convince you his very subjective opinion is a fact. Besides, I think that many times, when he's reviewing AAA games, the game design flaws he points out are true.

Some BIG damning news this week:
I think this renders the PSPGo literally worthless?
I've heard that this might be the same case with the PS4's cmos/battery too.
AWFUL

The cost of immediate gratification is a loss of video game preservation.

Lord knows the companies themselves do a crap job with preservation.

This just motivates me to buy less and emulate/pirate more again.
This stings more than the Wii shop shutdown to me, which still sucked. But I've never really stopped playing PSX games throughout the years, since the PS2 and then PS3 were still backward compatible. Some will argue that the PS2 runs the games faster, but I liked using my PS3 for PSX gaming and liked its smoothing option a bit more than the PS2's in certain cases. Plus I was able to get all my old memory cards backed up to my PS3. Then I upgraded the PS3 HDD, which was a humorously slow and chunky process, kind of scary making sure everything transferred over nicely and it all did. Fast forward to more recently, I started to prefer getting the PSN versions of some PSX games since they seemed more reliable... until now. I even double dipped on a few games so I could keep the discs more pristine. Now this is just a big slap in the face.
There were also several cases where rare games started dropping on the PSN store and you could save literally a hundred bucks, buying a digital version of Mega Man Legends 1 / 2 or Suikoden 2 instead of the hard to find physical copies out there.
I knew things were bad when the PS3's PSN store didn't merge with the PS4's and figured things were probably horribly organized behind the scenes. I didn't expect them to pull a Nintendo so soon though. For most of us here, the PS3 still feels "modern" gen in ways and this feels like pulling the plug on it too soon.
Are we even going to be able to get PS3 patches for games? Some games like MGS4, even had optional huge patches that let you install the game to reduce the insane loading times that it originally had at launch. I'm sure there's dozens of weird special scenarios like that... which could be lost now.
I'm just rambling but yeah, this freaking sucks. I know I can still keep playing those downloads for however long my PS3 battery lives and or while I have physical copies of stuff. But this kills the mood.
I know Xbox is changing "Xbox Live" to "Xbox network" now for whatever reason, all these years later... but I wonder how the online stuff for the 360 is going in comparison? I don't love a lot of what MS has done to the medium but they're at least putting in effort in recent years to make sure a lot of old stuff is still accessible going forward.

About that... it seems that the Xbox One also has some dumb online configuration requirement that will make it useless too.

The rumored store shutdown is probably going to see me go ahead and mod my Vita. I'd prefer a backup instead and leave my current one stock, but if the store isn't there, I'm not sure there's an impetus for keeping it as it is. Might even finally delve into emulation for real on it, although I hear the New 2DS/3DS is even better in that regard.

Wheeeeee! Welcome to the digital future, y'all, where even physical isn't safe. For the physical playback question, this would be a simple theory to test. Disconnect a PS4 from the internet and power it down. Unplug the system and remove its CMOS battery. Replug it, power it on and boot the system, get the dead CMOS error message (just to be sure). Power it down, unplug it, replace the CMOS battery. Replug, repower, after POST set the time manually - DO NOT connect the PS4 to the internet during this process. Then see if a physical game will boot and play. I bet it would.
I haven't seen anyone actually test this simple process yet. Just doom and gloom echochamber posts.
