Crap. Didn't know it had gotten that bad. In the eyes of average Joe gamer immediate gratification is king. And if a game's over a year old it's pretty much ancient dinosaur shit.

I can't see physical media ever truly dying out, but yeah I suspect the PS5 will be the final console generation where it's at least "kind of" still relevant and somewhat of a thing.
Does anyone think Gamestop will survive this next generation? They've been on life support for a few years now. Even if they sucked and I'll have no remorse for them, this will be another nail in the coffin for physical games...

I hope they do, but digital sales has definitely left them in the lurch.

At this point I'm honestly surprised Gamestop didn't try to dip into the publishing business. I think they did have a few indie level games here and there, or maybe bought some small studios... don't quote me on that but it maybe happened. But to survive the upcoming years, they probably should have diversified more, beyond trying to sell phones too or stupid things like Funko Pops.
Maybe in a few years, there will just be one Gamestop around.

They did try, actually, but I don't think it went too well. I bought one of the games they published, Song of the Deep, which was actually quite good.

GameStop bought Kongregate and JoltStudios years ago. Neither were successful iirc.

They've been trying, and I understand attempting to diversify. Unfortunately, the woes hitting them are the same woes that will pound the mom and pops as well.

Yeah, I wonder how the Vintage Stock's around here have been managing during the pandemic and all.
