Xeogred Another damn DQ3 remake? lol Yesssssss, I want DQ3 in the vein of DQ8/11 alongside that 2D-HD remake.
Guess I need to remember I played a remake via the SNES version, hah. This series does seem to have a massive amount of ports/remakes, but a lot of them were Japan only. Some of those PS2 ones look pretty cool...
I wonder if they'll do the 2D-HD thing for any others?
Anyways yeah, let us hope they don't lose their way with DQ12. But I'm optimistic as long as Yuji Horii is still steering the ship.

I kind of wonder what game Horii would make if he had the chance to make (one last?) non-DQ game. And I'm not counting Itadaki Street, since that's a board game that started off as a spin-off of the DQ Pacheesi mini-game. He started off with a trilogy of murder investigation adventure games. Wouldn't a modern Yuji Horii-led murder investigation RPG or action-adventure be cool?

If I'm being honest, the whole 2D-HD thing kinda disappointed me. I'm sure I'll get it, but I would have loved to have seen it in the full 3D style of Dragon Quest VIII/XI instead.

I'd rather have the 2D-HD look for remakes of classic 8/16-bit DQ entries. But for new modern DQ releases, yes full on 3D is preferred. To this day Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 looks magnificent. And that's before one even upscales and tweaks it via PCSX2.

I think my big thing is that we've already gotten remakes for Dragon Quest III that I feel nail the 2D aesthetic just fine, and I don't think this significantly changes the experience. I mean, sure, that's probably just fine for most, but I feel like there was an opportunity here to do what they did with Trials of Mana. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise me with some interesting changes to the core as well.

I understand where you are coming from, with you being someone who's already beaten DQ3 in multiple classic-presentation formats.
For me, a person who's never even played DQ3, the 2D-HD remake is ideal. I think newcomers are who this 2D-HD remake is targeting, rather than DQ vets who'd like a whole new building, rather than a fresh coat of paint.

I still might give it to the SNES remake in terms of aesthetics/music compared to what I've seen of the 2D-HD remake so far. I think I'm with Sarge there though and that's why I suggested the 3D remake idea. Seems like DQ3 has 20 remakes, but a 3D one would really be back to the drawing board in ways and pretty dramatically different. The mobile/Switch ports of DQ1-3 don't look ideal... I'd take more of these 2D-HD remakes over them. But yeah, having beaten DQ1-6 now, I'd probably only consider replaying some of them depending on a remakes aesthetic and things like that. There was charm in the DS versions of DQ4-DQ5's looks to me, but I'd easily take DQ3/DQ6 SNES's style over those. So if they make 2D-HD remakes of DQ4-5 those might be some I consider. DQ4 is another one that could maybe be killer in 3D though... I'm frankly kind of shocked DQ8 doesn't have a simple "remaster" port on new platforms everywhere right now. Let me guess, they "lost the source code"? DQ8 sounds like a fan favorite to many from what I hear and if they want to keep trying to get this series into more hands, it sounds like free money to me...

Wouldn't a modern Yuji Horii-led murder investigation RPG or action-adventure be cool? I picture something like Yakuza... maybe more Adventure/light novel based.
Hmm, makes me wonder if Horii has any thoughts on Yakuza 7 and the series' new direction, lol. They apparently straight up mention Dragon Quest and references everywhere in 7.

Oh, man, they should just do the Zenithian Trilogy in full 3D. I'd be all over those.
