Tell me about the villain in Suikoden 1... bet you can't. lol
But yeah, 2 is flawed but the payoff is great. I played 1-2 and 3 (new) again in the summer of 2015 or something. 1 starts off incredible and has amazing pacing from start to finish, the best OST as well. But the story in 2 is a lot better and fleshed out. Luca Blight is one of the best JRPG villains ever. It definitely has some slow pitfalls though, I recommend just using a guide to get through it. I hit some walls wondering WTF do I do now a few times when I replayed it that summer. I like how Flik, Victor, and others cross over again too. If you have a save of the first game you can also recruit the main character from 1. I'm still not huge on Jowy though and the main character being a mute actually hurts it, because...
3 has the best characters BY FAR. Chris and Geddoe are god tier and there's a twist in this one that really surprised me. 3 is a tough sell though, it's one of those games I played once back in the day and absolutely hated instantly. Took me like 10 years to give it another shot but I'm glad I did. It's still kind of flawed and oddly structured, you backtrack through areas a lot and the scope of the story is smaller than 1-2, but it in turn focuses far more on the characters themselves. It's a good 60 some hour burn though.
Still haven't played 4 or Tactics yet.
5 I played a lot back in the day and loved it, unlike my initial impression of 3. 5 looks and feels a lot more like 1-2 which is cool... but this game seemed endless. Even nowadays I see some people around the net joking about how long it feels, so it wasn't just me I guess. And looking back now, it's got some serious issues like a ludicrous amounts of loading haha. I might try to play it again someday but I don't know. It definitely seemed like a budget title too, doesn't look very good visually. But I still look back on it fondly since I got ~40-60 hours out of it.
