1. There's a SMT community? 2. Raids, hate speech and harassment? Of Gideon Zhi, of all people, and after he translated Shin Megami Tensei 1 & 2? Don't know what happened, either, but if it's half as bad as it sounds (and while I don't know the guy, in my time lurking about the fan translation world I've never heard of Gideon getting into any kind of drama), that's seriously messed up. 3. Eeeeh, I don't care too much about that one, to be honest. Little too dungeon-crawley for me. If something like Lady Stalker or Metal Max 2 came out, say, around Christmas, that would be great, though.
EDIT -To be clear, I was referring to Gid saying he'd been the target of those things from members of the SMT community in his news post, not that he had been accused of those things.

Apparently there was also some drama from the SMT community, so apparently Gideon is done with the series as a whole. I don't know the situation. I do know Gid. I used to be pretty good online "friends" with him back in 2004-2005. Super chill dude, no way he'd initiate any kind of drama. I'd wager it's more from ungrateful imbeciles who take offense to anything possible. This man is a living legend, and deserves nothing but respect and gratitude. Anyway, cool to see if... translated. Some folks claim it's a precursor to the Persona shift. The name "if..." and some of the game's conceptual design was directly influenced by this 1968 film: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If.... A PS2 game was recently fully translated into English (this one's not listed at Romhack):
It's Capcom's 2002 JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Ougon no Kaze (GioGio's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind).
Based on the fifth story arc of Hirohiko Araki's manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Vento Aureo. The game was originally supposed to be released in North America, but copyright issues involving music and artist names (many characters and other things in JJBA are named after famous musicians and songs, etc.) became an issue. Hirohiko Araki, creator of JJBA, refused to change character names for the localization, and thus its release in North America was cancelled.
The translation group released this on Facebook of all godforsaken things. I'd rather let fire ants devour my tongue than link to a Facebook page. You can get the translation here instead:

Well, the usual thing idiots do to piss off fan translators (and manga scanlators, and basically anybody who contributes things for free on the Internet) is whine endlessly about things taking too long. Particularly entitled and un-self-aware (not a word, I don't care) idiots have been know to even get aggressive about these things, so maybe it spiraled from something like that.

So I tried the SNES JoJo's Bizarre Adventure RPG that had been translated a while back. The presentation is pretty weird; the actual playing field consists of a narrow horizontal stripe in the middle of the screen, where you get around in side-scrolling fashion, but you only see the characters' upper bodies. The game seems extremely linear; in the hour or so I played, I mostly just walked forward, and every few steps an NPC would run up to me and say something to advance the story, or I'd run into a preset fight. Battles against generic enemy types play like an average turn-based RPG, but the major story battles never really let you fight at all; you have to use the Check command in battle, after which Jotaro might have an Idea, then you pick "Idea", "Guts" or some other subcommand under Check and the character just does whatever he did in the manga. In other words, this is less a videogame and more a clumsy vehicle for the manga's story on the SNES. If you're not already a fan, there's no real reason to play this rather than read the manga or watch the anime.

Huh, Namco's racer Super Family Circuit has been translated. I really enjoyed the first game of this racing series, along with other classic "Family" titles. Sad they dropped the cute mascot after the 8-bit era though.

That seems to be the case. It was apparently the most popular arc, and I think the first to get an OVA series. Videogames are usually the next step (this one came out in 1993, along with the first OVA). Similarly, it seems like 60-70% of Yu Yu Hakusho games are based on the Dark Tournament story arc.

Alright then, I was waiting for this translation for years, then it comes out and I almost miss it completely. I'm glad this got translated, I should really buckle up and play all the SMT games I still haven't finished, eventually.
And by SMT community, I assume he meant people on Twitter and the SMT subreddit. Apparently, the SMT If... translation became sort of a Half-Life 3 for that particular fandom. A lot of people thought the translation was never going to see the light of day and others complained the translator shouldn't have announced he was working on it if he's still wasn't any close to finishing it... stuff like that. I'm not surprised the guy is a bit upset.
