The 1993 Japan-only Super Famicom puzzle game Olivia no Mystery ( Olivia's Mystery) has received an English fan translation patch: www.romhacking.net/translations/7335/“Olivia’s Mystery” is a puzzle game for Super Famicom, released only in Japan. It features animated block puzzles and a quirky story to tie them all together. This patch translates game story screens to English. All remaining text in the game was already in English."- I think I already figured out what Olivia's mystery is.

It's always a surprise when I come across a SNES or Genesis game I've never heard of. Or a game company from that era. It being a puzzle game probably explains it, I tend to ignore those like they're old sports games.
Definitely some very amateurish art as Sarge pointed, looks more like a doujinshi than a commercial product. As per Mobygames, Altron started out as a company that would localize Western games for the Japanese market, then made mostly licensed games for Western publishers. Tom & Jerry, a random Simpsons racing game on the GBA, SpongeBob and Danny Phantom games, etc. So not the most interesting output for my tastes. And then they made a fair amount of puzzle games, including Little Magic on the SNES, which isn't bad. Olivia's Mystery was featured in a Game Center CX episode, apparently it's brutal.
"Machine translation tools were used for initial translation, but manual edits had to be done to make translation more precise and easier to read. Finally, project is still looking for a translator, as current generation of GenAI just cannot grasp all nuances required for a perfect translation. Consider this version of translation as a preview, a proof that text can be inserted into the game. English font was borrowed from "7th Saga" (SNES)."
So... not the release of the year.
I have to say, after a crazy 2023, fan translations haven't been as exciting this year. Lots of half-assed machine translations, as I've mentioned before, and not many games that are all that appealing. But we still have almost half the year.

Looks fun but I'd probably suck balls at it. Old puzzle games are dope though.

What exciting, untranslated games are still out there? Segagaga? Sorcerian on Genesis?

RadRedRooster Those two, definitely. Lady Stalker on the SNES (sequel to Landstalker, spiritual sequel to Alundra - not a game where you stalk ladies). Illusion City on the Sega, a turn-based cyberpunk RPG by Micro Cabin. Metal Max 2 on the SNES (I don't want to play some DS remake). Riglord Saga 2 on the Saturn. Xak 1 & 2 PCE-CD. Probably a dozen solid PCE CD RPGs, actually, especially the Legend of Xanadu games. A fair amount of PSX and Saturn RPGs (you'd be surprised how many interesting PSX RPGs weren't localized, like that underwater horror RPG about merfolks). The Yakuza spin-off about Musashi on the PS3 (though maybe there'll be a remake one day and it'll be localized, like Ishin was). Hissatsu Ura Kagyou on the PS2 - an adventure/stealth game hybrid where you play as assassins in feudal Japan who collect information about town during the day and execute their hits at night. That's just at the top of my head. There's really a good amount actually. I still want to see Surging Aura get a proper English translation. Some of those are being worked by various groups, though there are some we haven't heard of in years. Others are not.

Your post reminds me that some Far East of Eden games are still untranslated, as well as Shadowrun for the Mega-CD.

Yeah, I feel like the Saturn and PC Engine CD play host to a lot of RPGs and RPG-adjacent games that would be very welcome. And the PSX library is insanely deep - like the fact that I didn't know there was a follow-up to Mystic Ark.

Sarge Oh yeah, that's true. There's a PSX sequel to FEDA, too. FEDA is a solid Shining Force-like with a darker tone, by some of the same people ("Max Entertainment" is a spin-off of Climax). I'd play that too. RadRedRooster Shadowrun mega CD is another I meant to mention. People sometimes get the impression that "all the worthwhile games have already been translated", but that's because they're only looking at the NES and SNES. And even then, there's a solid handful of untranslated quality SNES games. The two Albert Odyssey games, for example - those are some of the last ambitious games Sunsoft ever made in-house (most of the Sunsoft games we got for the SNES were just published by them), it's an original twist on SRPGs, and the Saturn spin-off was good. There's some kind of patch from 2018 for the first game, but how much it translates is literally unknown, and the second game is untouched.
