toei: I actually missed the first link, too. I think it's something weird with the spacing on which it was displayed. My speed reading hath failed me as well. Hopefully WildBill kept the politics out. I think his last release was devoid of the political rantings. I don't even care if I agree with your politics, keep it out of my translations.

On a related note, I have quit more than one gaming forum over such shenanigans. Hence here at HRG we have a strict "NO POLITICAL DISCUSSION" policy.

Just noticed this in the readme, and I find it really disappointing:
I recognize that bug fixes can often be very tough (and this one apparently gave them some fits), but still, using ZSNES is... less than ideal.

Hard to believe patch developers would be relying on ZSNES these days. Maybe there's some kinda technical reason, but I'm more inclined to believe old habits die hard.

Well the readme also says they might never release a revised version cause they're too busy, so they probably just had enough and decided it was better to release it as is then possibly never release it.

Very true. Probably hit a really tough nut to crack, and yeah, it's better to have the work in some form than not at all.
Some of those older games are surprisingly poorly coded in spots, making hacking an absolute bear.

The N64 puzzle game Puyo Puyo Sun 64 has received a full English fan translation: www.romhacking.net/translations/5470/Looks highly decent if you're a fan of the series. However, emulating this particular hacked ROM is presently rather tricky:
"It is highly suggested to use the patched file on console with a flashcart. Console testing done with a 64drive HW1 and a Doctor 64 Jr. (albeit in a somewhat roundabout manner) revealed no replay issues. 4k EEPROM required. At time of release many emulators are not capable of running the patched file. Worst case, start MAME in debugger mode, open a memory editor window to BFC007E6, change the two bytes from 3F3F to DDDD, then press F5 to run."

aishsha and Stardust Crusaders, the main providers of Famicom RPG fan translations for the past few years, have released a new patch a few days ago, for SD Gundam Gaiden - Knight Gundam Monogatari. It's a standard DQ clone starring a bunch of SD Gundam characters with a fantasy makeover. The overworld graphics are so similar to Dragon Quest's that it almost looks like they were ripped. The writing seems kinda weird. Typically in the first town people tell you a little bit about the world and what's going on, but here they're mostly talking about some guy who built a house, which looks like any other house. It didn't seem to lead into any quest, at least for the time being. Then you leave town, one of the two characters who accompany you says "where has (third character) gone? I'll go look for him!", and you find yourself alone before you ever fought a battle. I won't be exploring it any further, because the encounter rate is disgustingly high.
