Oh, and I just realized this rates the "Redaction" version, but I was thinking of bisqwit's retranslation patch, which is fantastic. Doesn't change anything, honestly. Simon's Quest is good, regardless, but the improvements aren't enough to bump it up a tier.

Is that the second to last in your B tier? I'm not sure what the last one in your C tier is either. And it's weird that Dracula X Chronicles gets a listing, isn't it just Rondo and SoTN on the PSP? But yeah there were a few like these mentioned, that I couldn't really read or figure out haha. But I for sure haven't touched the GB ones.

Yeah, that's it. The last one in my C tier is the X68000 version of Akumajou Dracula. Castlevania Chronicles, of course, is the game that remixes, and I put it higher because it isn't nearly as cheap... but I do think it's actually a lesser game than most of the B tier stuff. I didn't really pay attention to how I sorted each one per tier... way too much work.
As for Dracula X Chronicles, that has both Rondo and SotN (with a different dub!), but also has a complete polygonal remake of Rondo as well. And much like Rondo, it's good, although the graphics can be a mixed bag.
I guess I'm significantly higher than most on Lords of Shadow. I had a blast with it, although I can also see arguments for dropping it to the B tier. Quite a few of these games reside on the border line.

Pretty weird Lords of Shadow was 2010 too, heh. From what I played, it seemed like a fine game. But not really Castlevania at all. I never beat Lament of Innocence either. This one at least had incredible music and felt like Castlevania, but those repeated long hallways and rooms in a 3D space were a recipe to quick burnout for me. So I never gave Curse of Darkness a shot. Maybe its level design is less repetitive? I'm actually not sure which version of the N64 game I played. I think that was a one weekend rental that I binged... didn't beat it, but that's my only faint memory of it 20 some years ago. I think I liked it but something tells me it's absolutely one of those games best left in the past and in my humble memories.

Just want to note that you have played Vampire's Kiss - the box art used is the PAL release, but it's Dracula X on SNES. Guessing it would go into your "Good" tier? Does anyone know which game the image of the guy on the right, girl on the left, gray backdrop is? I still can't figure that one out, so I was thinking it was some mobile game or something. Xeogred : Curse of Darkness was a game that definitely felt super "meh" to me. If you think the corridors were bad in Lament, well, enjoy massive, wide-open areas that take forever to traverse and don't have much of interest to inspect. Plus, I think the combat is worse as well. I think that was one of the redeeming features of Lament - whip combat felt really solid, and it had that Devil May Cry feeling going on for much of the game, even if it wasn't at that level overall. Fantastic soundtrack, though (and Curse also has an amazing one). From an objective point of view, Curse is probably better than Legacy of Darkness... but I enjoyed that game, clunky as it was, quite a bit. It's rough, but also has some decent ideas going on. Thankfully, Iga kept the series going on the 2D side.

Yeah I figured Vampire's Kiss was the European box art of Dracula X and so no, it stays in my C-D tier range. Not a fan of that one like you guys. The layout of the final boss room was atrocious and it had several annoying levels. I don't even care to compare it to Rondo like most do, rather I feel like Dracula X is super average against Super CV4 which came out 3 years earlier. Makes no sense to me, other than it was just an obvious rushed game to try and get an English release out that tied into Symphony of the Night. For the 16bit era I think Rondo, Super CV4, and Bloodlines blow Dracula X out of the water.
I'm sure my low ranking of Castlevania III might be shocking too. But I thought the multiple characters thing was just clunky, the backtracking sucked, and the checkpoints... or rather lack of in the English version, was extremely bad. I struggled to have fun with that one. This is where modernization smoothed thing out to me personally, I'd take Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon over CV3 anyday.

But hey this is coming from a C2 apologist, so fair enough. Edit: Also I wasn't going to take the time to cross reference all the European box art back to USA box art. So I did miss a few. For example the original Castlevania I would put in the GOOD tier.

That is why I like it and would put in "Good".
I'm glad to see C2 is getting more love. =) I think people were dissuaded because of the numerous false walls/holes you have to find.
