I enjoyed Gunbird for the Saturn, so it is good to know the sequel has is still up. I just noticed both games were released on Steam this year, but I think I'll give the arcade version of Gunbird a look sometime. Not sure if the Steam release has any new features or not though.
Gunbird 2 is one of my favorite shooters on Dreamcast, but mainly I recommend playing it with a Player 2 if possible (I wrote more but edited it since it was not very "game related"). That is also how I recommend playing Cannon Spike from Psikyo/Capcom, just a lot of fun that way. Actually, I would say a strength of the Dreamcast is the many fun two-player (well, up to four in some cases) games on the console. For me, one of the best "multiple player" games is Power Stone 2. I have fond memories of playing the Dreamcast game Armada with three other players in a hotel room during a school trip haha. Has anyone else here played Armada? I have not checked online recently but back in the day it was pretty underappreciated to me.
Ohhh, if only I had someone to team up with in Gunbird 2. That would be a blast.
I plan to check out Power Stone 2 sometime this month. I owned and loved the first one, but never got around to 2 despite generally hearing it was even better I think.

I did complete Silver today. I don't recall why I chose this one, but the main thing I can say about this one is that it isn't bad. For an action RPG it doesn't have any major flaws, except that there is basically nothing special or unique to this game. I didn't experience any errors in combat, but it was just a button mash. The special abilities seemed cool, but I never needed them. The magic is the standard lot, but a limited advance spell selection. You do have teammates, and they can help, but only a little because they are pretty dumb. Lastly, the plot is pretty bland: they stole my wife so let me kill the evil wizard!
I don't know, maybe I'm getting really critical the more I play.
The did do a good job of assigning the Dreamcast Controller to a computer game. They have a mechanism to cycle through all objects on the screen so don't have to hunt and peck (which I assume you would on the computer version.) Although if there were a lot of items, it got tedious. Especially when you have to stop moving to cycle and a giant robot is crushing you.
All that being said, one refreshing aspect was seeing 3D effects on late 90s computer rended backgrounds. It brought back quite the nostalgia!
5.5/10: It succeeds as an Action RPG, but there isn't anything special about it. +0.5 for the backgrounds =)

My brother played a ton of Armada. Very good game, and it doesn't seem like a lot of folks remember it these days. paulofthewest: Sounds like maybe Silver isn't getting finished this month. Thanks for taking one for the team, though.

If anyone wants a really good Dreamcast-exclusive ARPG, the obvious candidate is Record of Lodoss War. It's more Diablo-style, but the skill system has a ton of depth and I personally think it's better than Diablo.

Yeah, that's probably the best one. That team also made Shining Force Neo and EXA on PS2. It's very much Diablo.

paulofthewestProps for finishing an actual RPG for this theme. The Dreamcast wasn't exactly known as an RPG machine. Lodoss looks cool indeed, but it also looks to run 25-30 hours long, which is more than I want to deal with during Christmas month.

Ex: Yeah, that's why I haven't dived into it headfirst. I know folks probably prefer Skies of Arcadia, but I think Grandia II is the better RPG on the system. Skies is better experienced on Gamecube, where I'm pretty sure they reduced the encounter rate as well as added some content. I'm pretty sure I remember that's how you played, Ex.

I'm a staunch defender of the Legends version of SoA on GameCube. It has significant additional content, a more reasonable encounter rate, improved aesthetics, and so on. The "worse music" criticism of the GC version I found to be completely overblown.

I keep forgetting that came out on the Cube. I'll have to remember that when I want to check out Skies! Seems like one of those JRPG's I definitely should have played by now.
