What a coincidence, I just started The Final Fantasy Legends last week, and I'm currently at the fourth world (hope that isn't a spoiler!). Is this your first time playing TFFL? No, but it been a while. I'm enjoying playing through it again. The game is much harder than I remember. Are you liking the game?

It is surprisingly more complex than I expected. Not just the character creation system, but being able to wield multiple weapons in battle, and it seems those weapons have affinities versus enemy damage as well. The level up system is totally different for each character type as well. I wouldn't have expected depreciating equipment in a JRPG of this vintage, and the open world is also better realized than I expected. My only complaint at all so far, is TFFL has been a cakewalk. That may change as I get deeper into it. But yes, playing TFFL for the first time has been rewarding so far. It makes me want to finish the whole GB trilogy this year. If I don't burn out - but the games seem to evolve quite a bit per entry, so repetition might not be an issue.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you'll at least hit one brick wall, unless you've been getting very lucky with your monster development and mutant growth.

It does add some cool stuff, like the Robot class. Legend III feels more like a traditional Final Fantasy. The games aren't that long (~ 6-8 hours), so I don't think burning out will be that big of an issue.

The games aren't that long ( ~ 6-8 hours) But is that playing blind, or doggedly following a walkthrough? FFL3 does seem like an odd duck to the series. From what I've briefly read, Kawazu wasn't involved much and the team tried to make it more a traditional JRPG.

I think it'll probably take you a bit longer than that playing blind, but I figure FFL won't take you much longer than that (10-12, maybe?).
FFL3 is definitely an odd duck - it's more Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest than SaGa, which is appropriate given the team that worked on it.

I'm a Final Fantasy Mystic Quest apologist, so that sounds fine to me.

I like Mystic Quest quite a bit myself. It has such a bad rep, but it's a pretty solid little RPG.

Yeah, I got into it last time, but FFL3 is the first game developed by the new Squaresoft Osaka team that transferred over from Japanese RPG pioneers XTALSOFT when it died in the early '90s. Of the three games they made, it's the weakest; I also like Mystic Quest, and Treasure of the Rudras is great.

Treasure of the Rudras is great. It certainly was from what I played of it recently. That's another one I need to get back to. I think I'll finish FFL1 first though.
