I got a bunch of other later SMT's I could play instead. I believe you would enjoy these: >Anyone else feel the urge to play a long running franchise from top to bottom? Not once I realized how short life is (tends to happen once you hit 40). Nowadays I say prioritize entries that seem the most interesting first.

Those definitely look great. toei wasn't kidding... SMT2? More like SMT1.5. Same everything, other than the dungeons now looking kind of pre-rendered.

Xeogred Yeah the early SMT games don't particularly interest me (outside their OSTs). I think of them as growing pains towards SMT3, which is where SMT truly excelled. That said, I'm keen to give this a fair shot eventually: Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei contains SFC remakes of the FC MT1 & MT2 games. It was released in 1995 and is the last game in the Megaten series to be released on the Super Famicom. There is a full English fan translation available: www.romhacking.net/translations/2263/

Either toei is being serious or sarcastic. I don't see an image on my end but when I manually went to the image URL, I was like yeah that is some awesome art.

Nah I was being serious, it was showing on my end. That cover would have instantly grabbed my attention in a rental or retail store.

I'm gonna be dumping Glory of Heracles: Snap Story. Because I lost my little progress in GoH 4, I thought I'd play the Game Boy spin-off right quick. I don't know why I keep trying out 8-bit turned-based RPGs, knowing I always end up hating them. Apart from DQIV, FFIII and maybe one or two others, they're all just brutally tedious piles of random encounters. I'm probably 2-3 hours in and I've already had too much of them. For some reason, the distance between locations on the world is huge, you can only save in *some* towns, and so far, you can't warp to any town, just the last one you saved in. Instead of party members, you're accompanied by one god at a time, who can only be healed in towns where you can save (I can see that becoming an issue down the line...)

brutally tedious piles of random encounters That succinctly encapsulates 90% of 8-bit JRPGs I've played alright. Some ROMhacker should start a rebalance campaign for all 8-bit JRPGs. Just cut their encounter rate by 75%, and increase the experience gained by 75%, there you go.
