Forgot that was an exclusive. DeathKeep is the one that was also on PC. I played 'em ages ago via emulation and enjoyed liking them well enough. Not sure why I never bought physical copies.

In community college I went to class with a guy who told me he actually owned a 3DO as a kid. His favorite 3DO game was some kind of space empire simulator. I think it had various alien races represented by little portraits showing them over your space webcam like an episode of Star Trek or something. I can't remember what it was called, though. Does it ring a bell for anyone?

played 'em ages ago via emulation Speaking of emulation, I have been wondering what the best 3DO emulator for PC is? Anybody know a good one? 3DO game was some kind of space empire simulator To me that sounds like: Edit: Just found out that Out of this World and Wing Commander were updated with new graphics for their 3DO ports: Super Street Fighter II Turbo on 3DO had a remixed (thus unique) OST: Starting to think this console wasn't such a joke after all. 🤔

anayo & Ex Yeah, it's very obviously Star Control 2. I'd forgotten about it because I've never really wanted to play, but SC2 is a huge cult game. I've seen it brought up many times as people's favorite game, on All-Time Greatest Games list, etc. It's a MS-DOS game originally, though, but the 3DO port is beloved too. 4DO is good, but I think there's a (reputedly) better one now? It's called Phoenix. I haven't tried it, though. And I've been saying it, the 3DO wasn't a joke console, it was a brave attempt. That remixed SF2Turbo OST is great, btw.

Non-Genesis or SNES ports of Another World have never made much sense to me. I always figured the main draw was seeing 32-bit special effects and animation on 16-bit hardware. There's even something on the box that says, "CD-ROM effects on a cartridge!" But once you have actual 32-bit hardware, why not play something that would never ever work on Genesis or SNES? I have trouble getting into the non-Sega Genesis versions of Virtua Racing for this reason.

A home version of Wing Commander sounds badass in 1993 or 1994. Surprisingly enough, there have been quite a few Wing Commander ports to consoles and handheld: I have no idea how any of those ports hold up to the PC versions. Wing Commander is a series I have long criminally neglected. I've never played any of it (yet). Many years ago I had a roommate who loved the series and he swore it's awesome stuff. As much as I enjoy flight sims I should get on this series. I see where you are coming from and agree. The 3DO version though is special, in that it has remade (more detailed) backgrounds unique to the 3DO version. For a fan of the game, that's reason enough for a replay.

The other one that has a unique remixed soundtrack is the PC port, which is also quite good.

anayo The 32X version of Virtua Racing handles very differently from the Genesis version, and is a much better game. It's my favorite 32X game, and my favorite physics and controls in a racing game to this day. The Saturn version adds another track and looks much better, and the arcade original has the best graphics and is the first significant 3D racer (Atari and Namco made one before, but the framerate was like 10fps which made it basically unplayable so it had no impact). Basically, the Genesis has the worst version of the game. "32-bit graphics on a 16-bit console" was only the main draw of these games for people who didn't have access to the better versions at the time; now that this no longer means anything, why play the worst port for meaningless technical showcase reasons?
