Ex This happens to me all the time. In my case I've found that it's usually because I'm stubborn in my mistakes - even when I get the idea that I should probably do a certain thing differently, I have a hard time doing it until sleep sort of wipes my slate clean.

I still think The Sands of Time feels very weird. It doesn't have the weight to it that the Tomb Raider games and others have that I generally prefer. But above all, there is no permanent-manual jump. By that I mean a jump only activates when you're running off/near a ledge, otherwise this button makes you roll. I guess you can get used to that, but I think it's freaking wacky and will probably never feel natural to me. It's easy to see how this combat was the basis for Assassin's Creed and a lot of modern stuff though, it's just more floaty and slow here. The combat music is inches away from wanting to go full nu metal... not in a good way.
I know there's some big fans here, but I don't know. Playing more of this again the other day was just like "Ah yeah, that's why I fell off of this fast last time".

In my case I've found that it's usually because I'm stubborn in my mistakes It's probably that too, sheer stubbornness. The trick is to realize when you've reached the point of zero gains for your attempts, and to just pack it away till the next day. I still haven't mastered that trick yet. I know there's some big fans here, but I don't know. I don't know about "big fan", but I did enjoy Sands of Time back in 2004. I don't know what I'd think of it today however. I only beat it that one time sixteen years ago. I still think you personally might enjoy Warrior Within more than Sands of Time.

He means me, I'm sure. And yes, I'm a big fan.

He means me, I'm sure. And yes, I'm a big fan. Yep, I couldn't remember if some others here liked it too though. Maybe Tsumuri? Since he plays this gen a lot.
Can you manually jump whenever in Warrior Within?
To be fair, with my current state of mind in life being crazy, I don't want to give games I quickly cycle through right now the real chopping block though. I know my mood isn't really right at the moment. But yeah that was one of the few games I dabbled into over the last week or so.
I didn't play them, but I did pull Wild Arms 3 and SMT Nocturne from the shelves, so they're potentially on deck. But I feel like a JRPG commitment right now would be both good... and bad.
Modern wise I started up Yooka Laylee & The Impossible Lair, the 2D DKC Returns styled one which seems neat. Ghost of Tsushima I love but there's been more than a few times where I load it up and within minutes decide I'm not in the mood for it. Still playing a level of Nioh 2 on NG+ here and there. The Messenger is probably the best new thing I'm playing right now and one I will finish.
If you guys don't know my gaming habits... I usually only play like ~2 games at once. So the above really illustrates how chaotic things are for me right now.

I'd love to see you play through Nocturne, but it's a pretty dark game. I don't know if that'd be good for your headspace right now. Maybe you'd resonate with it more as a result, or maybe it'd be like pouring salt in a wound.

Xeogred: I honestly don't remember. Warrior Within has been so long ago, and I've not replayed it since shortly after it released. I think I'm just used to the floatiness of Sands. It's basically the game that got me into those sorts of cinematic puzzle-platformers, so I definitely like the way it feels. Tomb Raider's reboot definitely cribs a lot from Sands, and of course Uncharted does as well (and also by cribbing from Tomb Raider). I really do need to play through it again, along with the sequels, which I've only beaten once as compared to the original that I've finished at least three times. Mood and life stuff definitely affects how much gaming I do. Right now, things are pretty stable for me, so I'm up for it. I tend to watch a lot more TV when I'm kinda bummed about things and stressed... or sleep more. I can always use more sleep, honestly.

I played Sands of Time soon after it came out and enjoyed it a lot. Only finished Warrior Within and Two Thrones about 2 years ago and enjoyed them a lot as well. Each entry in the trilogy has a different flavor, but they're all similar enough that I wouldn't expect you to, say, like Warrior Within if you actively disliked Sands of Time. Might be that kind of gameplay isn't for you, Xeogred, and you prefer something like TR when you're given more freedom (aka Soul Reaver). Although that doesn't explain why you'd like the 2013 TR reboot... I'd love to see you play through Nocturne, but it's a pretty dark game. I don't know if that'd be good for your headspace right now. Maybe you'd resonate with it more as a result, or maybe it'd be like pouring salt in a wound. He might even start to worship Ahura Mazda or some obscure demon. Better be careful. Yeah, you don't wanna end up like me. I'm too far gone. I seem to be 24/7 in the right headspace for horror gaming.

I tend to play horror games off and on myself all year round, then when October hits I'm actually often not in the mood for it when everyone else is haha. Hard to tell if basking in darkness helps me cope personally or not. I'm sure it does to an extent but can also make me stew in it too much. I can tell putting headphones on and blasting some of the most aggressive metal I have available is usually really cathartic.
