Final Fantasy III truly is one of the best 8-bit RPGs out there. If you get a hankering for that sort of game, definitely give it a go. You can also try the DS version, which is also good, but does make some small changes to the formula. It still feels very 8-bit in nature, though.

Yeah, my C grades there aren't a dig on them, it's more like a B+ compared to other games haha. Not sure on FF9 though. Need to replay that one someday. But FF1 is simple good fun (the GBA/PSP versions for me) and FF3 was awesome, but it's just a 30 some hour pure dungeon crawler. Not going to be for everyone. Even I'm still surprised I powered through it, had to be in the right mood.
D: FF2, FF15, LR, 10-2... My D's are accurate though and FF15 should probably be an F. The PSP version of FF2 is the only one I liked enough to beat. The game is completely fine, but the leveling up system is annoying. I don't plan to play it ever again. Lightning Returns and 10-2 were very painful so I didn't bother finishing them.

I'm pretty sure the PSP version is very similar to the GBA one. The rebalance is certainly better than the original NES game. And I do have a soft spot for that one; it's not perfect, but I still put a good amount of time into it, and it ended up spinning off the SaGa series, which I definitely have some favorites in.

You can also try the DS version I plan to play that version of FF3 when I get around to it, albeit it'll be via the PSP port. The PSP version builds off the DS version, adding new stuff. The 3D graphics have been re-adjusted to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio, and new features such as the sound and image gallery, an option to switch to the original BGM, and an 'auto-battle' system that doubles the speed of combat, have been added.

Yeah, I would have probably played it there if I hadn't already played the DS version. So I've beaten FFIII twice - I'd say I enjoyed it.

Does the PC version have all those PSP features?

Pretty sure it does. I think all the later versions are based on the mobile/PSP ports.
EDIT: Oh, interesting, apparently the PSP version came after the mobile/PC versions. The Steam version has been patched with features from the PSP version, though, so it looks like they're pretty much identical at this point. I'd check out the UI and art differences and see if that influences your decision.

Still replaying Minstrel Song, six hours in. Finally got my microSD card to resume my Moon (Switch port) playing, but forgot the card at the office. On and off this year I have been replaying .hack//INFECTION (2002). My goal is to replay all the original .hack games: And then get to the G.U. games, which I own but have never played (I will probably just play the PS4 port of these): So, currently I am almost 23 hours into INFECTION: I acknowledge the flaws of the .hack series and will offer no rebuttal haha, but I still love the concept very much. As someone who was pretty enthralled with the advent of MMORPG console gaming (I admired Phantasy Star Online from afar), but did not want to actually take part (preferring a single player experience, the exception being playing games with my brother), the .hack franchise was a perfect fit for me. I guess it gave me an idealized concept of an MMORPG community without having to deal with "real people" haha, with some cool mysteries in the narrative that would not have been possible in a real one. I still love the faux title screen for when you "boot up" The World (another nice touch was putting the copyright date into the years which the story takes place instead of 2002): Checking out the "desktop/web browser" portion of the game is still pretty cool. Nice Tail Concerto cameo and a fun peek into the "future" with disgruntled "Neuro Goggle" customers haha: I will type more about the actual gameplay and some story stuff when I get further into the series.

I missed getting the G.U. series back in the day. It was right at the end of the PS2 life and I was tired of keeping up with all the RPGs like the madman I was then. I ended up finding Vol. 3 eventually for cheap, but still haven't gotten the first two, and it's a very low priority now since I snagged Last Recode. You're probably best playing there anyway - my understanding is that it polishes things up quite a bit. The original games, I do happen to have. I love the idea, but I do think they spread them way too thin. They probably could have been two games instead of four, just from the pacing I encountered in the first volume. You know, kinda like how they got three movies out of The Hobbit. But I could also be wrong on that front - sounds like you've finished all of them. Do you think they should have been shorter, or were they about right?
