Two infamous spots for me:
As a kid I could never figure out where to go in Norfair and this was the major holdup for me. For anyone who knows this spot, I bet you feel my pain. Later on you see another spot or two in Norfair like this so you at least know to check next time, but yeah then in Kraid there's a fake sand pit, and Ridley's Lair has some invisible floor traps that really mess you up haha. I'm not sure if I ever beat Metroid on legit hardware prior to emulation in the late 90's for me.
Nowadays whenever I replay Super Metroid and go for high percentage, I tend to miss an item or two and I'll never forget this dang missile. It's in the far left of Norfair on the way to Crocomire. There is truly no reason to backtrack through this section ever again after going through it once, yet the tricky placement of this item basically expects you to use Space Jump. Every platform in this tower is a pitfall block that breaks. You can get a jump off of them if the timing is right, but yeah. I try to go for speed and efficiency when I run through Super thesedays, so I eventually got it with skills in wall jumps, freezing some enemies to stand on, etc haha. Just kind of have to brute force it.
1h35m into Super again and I saved at Maridia for a dinner break.

I went back to T.R.A.G. after all, and played it for about two hours. I'm probably at least a third of the way through, so I'll probably finish it. It's actually pretty decent. You do have to get used to the tank controls again, and there's a lot of running around back and forth as you unlock doors and the like... but all action-adventure games of that type have some of that. Maybe this game isn't quite as smooth as some others, but I like the corporate building setting, switching between your two teams of characters, and it's pretty cool that you have a backdash move for fighting. The reviews on Gamefaqs were really harsh, but so far, I don't think it deserves that.

Since I last played Metroid Fusion in 2014 and just ran through most of the 2D ones again, feels right to give Fusion another run. Still not may favorite but it's pretty solid compared to other games. But I think this is where I'd take a lot of Igavania over this one, but the other Metroid's I like more beat all of CV for me. GBA wise I'd probably rank them as such: 1. Zero Mission 2. Circle of the Moon 3. Aria of Sorrow 4. Metroid Fusion 5. Harmony of Dissonance
My 2014 Fusion run was only 3h37m, so I'm probably already halfway through it again.

Xeogred I tried all the 32-bit survival horror games at one point, I think after beating the first two Resident Evils a couple years ago. Outside of RE, Silent Hill and Deep Fear, none of them really appealed to me (Deep Fear turned out to be just average). I remember really hating that first location in Countdown - everything looks so muddy that it's hard to tell where you can and cannot go, I'm pretty sure the music sucked, and the sleeping dart gimmick sounded annoying. Skimming through a longplay, later areas don't seem as bad. I might even play it if I were still a more active gamer.

I always fall off Countdown quickly because the opening seems a little mazey with item/ammo management immediately an issue. You seem annoyingly underpowered too, the dart gimmick rings a bell since I recall enemies being able to get back up kind of quickly. That's never very fun.
RE2 holds up flawlessly to me and is still in my top 5 for PSX games. So it's cool that the originals that spawned a lot of clones and all, still rightfully holds up as a gem. It might be surprising that I still haven't beaten either Dino Crisis. I fall off of those after awhile. They're definitely Capcom's B-C grade effort on that formula. I still haven't beaten either Parasite Eve even though they have some slick productions and all. Maybe someday.
I really wish Deep Fear was on something else. I never feel like emulating Saturn stuff thesedays.

I fell off Parasite Eve 2 myself. I got to a really annoying part where dogs would attack you from off the screen and died repeatedly. Usually that would just motivate me to try harder, but I guess I just wasn't into it at all so it didn't have that effect. This was on a live PSX. I'm not like Sarge . I have no idea what happened to that memory card from deep in the past. I would have to start the game over if I wanted to finish it. I really liked the first game, but it really wasn't survival horror. The second is much closer to the formula. My issue with Dino Crisis is that it's supposedly more action-y, with much more mobile enemies... but you're still stuck with tank controls. It doesn't sound like a good mix. Also, I guess I just don't think dinosaurs are all that cool.

I don't think Resident Evil 3 is for me. Seems like it wants to keep you running all the time. There are also way too many zombies, and bullets seem much weaker than in the previous games. It takes like 30 handgun bullets to kill 3 or 4 zombies. I also don't like the way the story starts. I'm not the biggest fan of in media res. The idea is supposed to be that you get straight to the action, but if I have no idea who anybody is or what's going on (aside from whatever I remember from the first two games), how am I supposed to care? Then I got to the police station, which you spend a lot of time in in RE2, and it just seemed boring to have to go through it again. I really liked the first two games, but I'm not getting a good impression about this one. Also, Capcom sucks for making you to choose between Easy and Hard mode, with no Normal in sight (though that's not new to this game).
How's Code Veronica on the Dreamcast? Is it better to play Code Veronica X, or are the extra cutscenes too much? Supposedly Code Veronica was planned as the real sequel to RE2, while RE3 was originally a spin-off.

Hard = Normal basically and more like the first two games. The RE2 police station re-trek is extremely brief honestly. The story makes no sense. Anyways, you're not all wrong. I laugh at some fans who think RE4 ruined the series for being all action. RE3 is absolutely all action and very linear compared to the first two games. I like the Racoon City environments and all but it's not half as good as the Spencer Mansion or police station. The triggered events with the Nemesis that give you options and his semi-dynamic appearances make the replay value pretty good... but yeah. Not my favorite. Code Veronica is my least favorite so since we often disagree on games, maybe you'll love it. It has its ardent fans for whatever reason. I know of the weird development history and yeah it's not hard to see it as the more true RE3 in ways. - Fully 3D environments haven't aged well - Claire's bowgun absolutely sucks and must be used a lot unlike in RE2 - Some of the worst characters in the franchise (Steve) - There's this one humanoid blob enemy that looks like evil yellow Gumbi who can slap you from across the screen - If you think backtracking is annoying in any other RE game, you ain't seen nothing yet. Get ready to go through the entire area again with a second character. - Easy to soft lock with a bad save in this one. Seems very lacking in quality control. - One infamous boss battle with a sniper rifle pisses a lot of people off. - Unlike the other classic RE's, this one is long. Too freaking long for its own good.
It has a good save room theme at least.
