Interesting picks! Mushihimesama is probably my third favorite bullet hell, after the sequel and Deathsmiles. Deathsmiles makes me think I may prefer horizontal.

bonesnapdeez - I also bought a copy of Deathsmiles for 360, per your persuasion back in ye days. Maybe October is the right time to finally play it. - One of my all time favorite shmups that seems forgotten: Anybody ever play it?

Yep, I've played through it a couple of times. Very fun stuff indeed. I've always liked the 19XX series of games.

Finished the Brutes' base in DDS1 last night. What a ride. The dungeon had mutable floor plans based on magic orbs you activated. There were four different bosses in this one dungeon, each boss was completely unique, each requiring a different strategy to defeat. Tough stuff but not in an annoying way, rather an invigorating way. I'm reaching a point of respecting the shit outta DDS. This is Brutes' base theme song (dungeon music): Headed to Nirvana next!

Sounds like the tunnels with the handful of varied Orc bosses in SMT3, or the Diet Building... Want a boss in a SMT dungeon? Here, have four.

Put some time into Dracula X tonight. I intend to re-beat this classic to see if it lives up to my 20+ year old memories. I often praise this underdog of the franchise and wanted to see if that's actually warranted. So far it is. X's a little tougher than I remembered, but I'm making it through well enough. I made it to the fourth stage and wrote the down the password. Will do my best to finish this week.

Not one of my favorites, but it's still cool. Since it has branching paths I'd like to replay it someday.
I still prefer Super Ghouls n' Ghosts to both Dracula X and Super CV4.

My thing is I often see folks rag on Dracula X, principally regarding it as a "poor man's Rondo of Blood". Whereas I did not see X as a watered down port or reimagining of Rondo, and still don't grok that connection. Regardless thus far Dracula X has been a solid classically styled Castlevania. I've certainly played far worse in this series. Now Dracula X may not be as good as Super Castlevania IV, but it does have something that particular entry doesn't; Difficulty.

I'm in the Rondo camp but yeah, even I don't like the comparison between these two much. I know Konami supposedly wanted Dracula X to be a retelling of Rondo to prep people (internationally) for Symphony of the Night, but if you replaced Richter in one of these games then I think that would say it all. The levels are completely different for the most part, they're entirely different games.
