They're both ports of an older computer game, anyway, and the graphics are minimalist for 16-bit consoles. I'm guessing New Horizons didn't sell all the well, because we didn't get any more entries in the series localized. Seems there were a fair amount of sequels in Japan though.

Speaking of New Horizons, I'm debating if I want to shell out for the superior SNES version. I've always found that game rather fascinating, even if I've never stuck with it long.

Indeed there are many emulators that support rewind. As in you hold down a button and the game literally rewinds until you release the button. Then you can start playing again from where you rewinded to. This is one of the tricks that Let's Plays use to make the player look perfect. Rewind + Editing = Perfect Player. Never thought of that. I love FF7 and it's the only post SNES one I've beaten several times now. It's an unapologetic mess of a game/early 3D tech but just has so much weird charm. The highs outweigh the bad for me. Even as a kid though I'm not sure I liked it more than FF6. I was emulating games hard in the late 90's/early 2000's right around when I had access to a PSX/PS2. I lived and breathed JRPG's for awhile then.

That's why I appreciate NintendoComplete on YouTube, his longplays are all legit.
