Winter is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than by playing winter-themed games and, well, WINning said games? It's up to you to decide what counts, but in general, anything that has snow-themed/winter-themed levels is on the table, so there are lots of options. Games like Lost Planet, D2, Christmas Nights, Batman: Arkham Origins, Snatcher, Parasite Eve (the Die Hard of Christmas games, perhaps?), SSX Tricky... ...and as luck would have it, the random draw has given us the 3rd generation, which has a plethora of games with the dreaded "ice physics" that we know and hate love. Heck, Super Mario Bros. 3 gives us a whole ice world to play with! So feel free to go nuts! As always, you can either combine the themes, or do them separately. Bonus points if you do, which count towards absolutely nothing.

Love this... could be tricky to think of some new games though. Ice Climbers isn't very good, right?
Ohhh, I get the dual themes now.
General = Sticking to the Generations Winter = Anything HRG Legal
Yeah I think this will spice things up for the year.

Yep, exactly. General theme as always, but a secondary one each month so there are other options. And you can combine them if you like.

Dual theme interesting idea. Lost Planet: Extreme Edition will work here and last month, that's a WIN. I'll look for some third gen winter stuff too.

I actually played Christmas Nights a few days ago. It's really just a cool little demo that was given out, though, so it's just one level and one boss. Lots of unlockables if you get good scores etc., including playing as Sonic, but of course the game wasn't made for him so it's awkward to just run and jump in that world. Winter Nights is a different thing - you can play the whole game with winter-themed levels by setting the Saturn clock to the winter, IIRC. Either way, I realized that I don't care for Nights all that much, even if it was sort of fascinating as a child.

Yeah, I know people that love Nights, but it just doesn't grab me. I see the appeal, though. It's very much a score-chaser sort of game, get on the right flight paths and rack up impressive runs. Probably not too dissimilar from, say, stringing together an impressive run in Tony Hawk.

Fun to run through that thread again and all the pics. Wish Ziggy stuck around.
Blaster Master stage 6... Super Ghouls n' Ghosts stage 5 SMB3 World 6 (NES version) Super Turrican had some chilly stages How about that rare ice cave in Donkey Kong Country that only had one variant of? Crazy they made something so unique looking for a single cool stage.
I think of those a fair bit. LOVE snowy/icey themes.
Can you guys think of an 8bit game that is entirely winter/snow themed?

Found this with a very quick search, there might be others.

The aforementioned Ice Climbers would count as well. There's some sports games that fit the bill, too, like Ski or Die. Or the various hockey games - I might give one of the Kunio ones a go.
Oh, right, and Kickle Cubicle. Great, great puzzler along the lines of the Lolo games, although a bit more arcade-y. Which makes sense, since that's where it originally came from. The NES version is way more fair, though.
