Yeah, normal version with the positive reviews. I always check that with PC ports of console games cause Windows updates and messy standards make PCs a inherently unreliable gaming platform. I saw Lost Planet 2 was delisted from Steam too because it won't run. Glad to hear there's a roll. I put Winback aside from a moment, but I didn't realize it had an actual lock-on button at first, because it also has an auto-aim that does a similar job in some situations but not all. Thankfully it has a good tutorial. So with Lost Planet I'll make sure to look the stuff up, since it's from the era of needlessly complicated controls.

Yeah, not to mention the 2000's were not a kind era for Japanese PC ports especially. I'd say from 2010 and on things have been a bit more stable and most natively support controllers.
Thankfully had no issues using a controller in Lost Planet as well. I was pretty skeptical about that going in. Even the PC ports of RE4 and RE5 are kind of clunky in ways.
I may double check a manual myself on Lost Planet. It's amusing how the in-game action icons will display the keyboard button, a slash | in between, then the gamepad button. It makes it a bit weirder for my eyes to process seeing double. lol

Wasn't expecting a boss stage in Snow Bros. Kind of a fun quirky game actually.
Ice Climbers though... think others already said as much, but it's pretty lame. Weirdest jump/feel I've seen in a bit. And when you jump, I guess the hammer on the backside of your head can hit birds or enemies? Because sometimes it made no sense how I was knocking them out. That was my only guess.

Lost Planet and the game still seems amazing to me. Kinda like how I think P.N.03 is great but you thought it was bleh? The first stage of LP is "OK". I didn't start getting highly irritated with Lost Planet until the 3rd stage boss and the 4th stage boss fights. Because it's during boss fights that all the design foibles coalesce into a shit show. I know when I'm playing a great game (to my tastes) because when I'm not playing it, I feel a strong urge to want to play it again. But I haven't touched Lost Planet in days now, feeling no desire to go back to it. Not a good sign... especially when I've sworn off forcing myself to beat mediocre games. But because you're adamant Lost Planet is a great game, I will give LP one more chance. Maybe the 5th stage will change my mind about this one. Or maybe it'll convince me to uninstall it. It did not come to me intuitively, that I need to click the left stick in, while also pushing the jump button, to perform a ground roll. >PC version runs pretty good >Lost Planet - Extreme Condition I've been playing the Lost Planet: Extreme Edition Xbox 360 version. Why? Well this was the original target platform that this game was developed for. And... it has issues with frame rates, especially during the frequent big explosions and giant smoke clouds during boss fights. But it hasn't crashed at least.

2006 was not the era of performance on consoles. I'd say that. But I wouldn't have known better back then. I'm glad it works fine on my PC, because I pretty much never want to play anything on the 360 now if I have other options. If I'm going back to Lost Planet now, I think you should load up PN03 afterwards yourself. Then we'll talk awkward controls.

Then we'll talk awkward controls. That's a fair criticism of P.N.03, that game doesn't have the best controls. But to be clear, it's not the (less than ideal) controls that irritate me with Lost Planet. It's the dumb gameplay decisions, like the stumbling and falling protagonist, who takes forever to get back on his feet, his slow run speed, lack of lock-on to enemies, crappy reticle targeting mechanics, ridiculous smoke blocking the player's view, the idiotic thermal death timer, inability to aim straight upwards, tissue paper player mechs, frame rate chunk during explosions, your mech's hover lasting 2 seconds, having to mash B a hundred times to eject from a mech or set a waypoint beacon, can't change menu options while actually IN the game, and other dumb design ideas. Meh by a thousand cuts. BUT to be fair, I do like LP's snow/ice environmental aesthetic, big monsters, grappling hook, shoot the orange concept, grenades, player mech variety, and the goofy CG cutscenes. So it's not all bad. 🤷♂️ And I will give this game one more chance to change my mind.

You doin' my man Wayne bad. Really surprised you don't like the mecha. The first time I got in a mecha again, it felt amazing. You can also manually put gatling guns and big arms on their sides. Hope you knew that too. Maybe seriously look at the manual in case there's other tricks in there that aren't spelled out in the game well. There's 11-12 missions and HLTB is showing shorter times than I remembered. I was thinking like a 8-10 hour game here, but looks like half that. There is a specific flying boss I recall being brutal... I want to say stage 7 or so. Who knows. I'll keep playing myself and see if I get frustrated. But in general, I would take Lost Planet's hefty tank controls, over watery fluid uncontrollable jank like Uncharted from the same era ANY day. I can't stand games that feel like that. So of course I love Dead Space, RE, etc... I like feeling like a tank. For my tastes, makes controls feel more precise, I'm in control. At the same time yes, it's comical how heavy Wayne is. The snow life is tough yo. Oh and I can confirm, this feels SO much like Monster Hunter. You may not like those if you're not digging the "feel" of Lost Planet. I've only played World and loved it, but yeah it's weird. Coming back to Lost Planet now is eye opening in a funny way with that comparison. Specifically when you get knocked down/back, it's a slow process getting up.

Not sure what counts as "beaten" in Ski or Die, but I just ran all the events. It's actually pretty decent, just very slight overall. Controls take some getting used to, but it's at least somewhat intuitive eventually. The halfpipe is pretty tricky to land some of the tricks - the visual cues aren't always as good as just knowing when to release the button. You have to be going full speed to perform the most impressive tricks. The snowball fight sequence is pretty fun, too. I don't love the skiing events or the innertube bit, but there's a little bit of strategy that I need to pick up to be better at them. At least I got cheers on my three skiing trick jumps!
For what it is, I'll say it's a 6/10 for me. I can see trying to really rack up score, and I have to think that as a multiplayer experience it's way more fun. I figure that would bring it up a full point in that context.

Really surprised you don't like the mecha. I didn't say I don't like the mecha. I said I don't like how fragile the mecha are. The player's mecha anyway, enemy mecha can take loads of damage. >There is a specific flying boss I recall being brutal That was probably stage 4's boss that I already beat. And before you get it in your mind that I don't like hard bosses, remember I beat and loved AC6 last year. I love hard games as long as the tools the player is provided are adequate. >I like feeling like a tank That would be fine if Wayne had the resilience of a tank. Instead he has the clunkiness of a tank and the resilience of an eggshell. >it's comical how heavy Wayne is. The snow life is tough yo. Except he moves the same way inside of buildings on solid ground. >this feels SO much like Monster Hunter Agreed 100%. I played (not beat) the first three or four MH games Capcom released. But not World (yet). I do know the more modern MH are less janky and clunky than the originals.

There's Snow Brothers done. Decent little game, took me two runs to get through, though. Lots of sloppy play the first time, but learned a few things and made it with plenty of continues to spare - it's actually very generous with them. I'd say it's a 6/10 game as well - decent, and probably a bit better if you really dig Bubble Bobble, as it's really just a different spin on that game.
