SargeI really admire your commitment to having such a thorough library of those early Nintendo Power mags. I myself only have two or three NES-era issues from a thrift store find.

It really is because I had most of them either through a friend that gave some to me and the fact that I was a solid subscriber from Volume 21 all the way until the late SNES era, barring one particular gap. I've had to spend quite a bit of money to get those first-year issues, though... but if I find my old ones, I can always sell those.

Is there a retro game magazine thread? Sorry to be a bit off-topic but I just wanted to mention a game magazine. One I liked that rarely is mentioned these day is Tips & Tricks Magazine (sorry for the bad photo quality, I do not have a lot of light currently) Here are a few issues from my collection: I think it is known as one of the more disposable magazines of its day because it was thought of by people as just a "code book", but I read it for the various articles within which would give context to a lot of things for me growing up in a non-Wikipedia world. The magazine taught me a thing or two about game history haha. Like the Fighters Megamix article explaining where all the characters originally came from: And it would occasionally have articles of old arcade games I never knew existed up until that point, instead of just focusing on current stuff: The magazine also kept me up to date with the video game anime adaptation news: It had weird articles like "Suezo makes a house call" haha: Unique stuff like getting to see all the various arcade token stylings each month: Video game candy spotlights: Ads for new Lynx and Jaguar games long after the consoles were defunct (Well, Gamefan also would have articles about this): And also just cool articles about the secrets in games (rather than simply cheat codes, but the magazine definitely did not mind spoiling stuff): I think it is a pretty overlooked game magazine so just wanted to mention it haha. If I could ever find issues in "the wild" I would definitely pick them up, but I rarely see them where I live. Oh yeah, later on it would even have an Armored Core section each month for quite a long time.

Oh, yeah, Tips & Tricks was one I definitely enjoyed. I got several years of issues out of it while I was getting all those magazines in.
(Seriously, I'm pretty sure during that time I was getting EGM, GamePro, Tips & Tricks, PSM, Official XBOX Magazine, Official PlayStation Magazine, Computer Gaming World, and Nintendo Power. And I'm probably missing one, who knows? It was ridiculous.)

Chainsaw Bilqis I actually owned three of those five issues at the time. Tips & Tricks was more reliably stocked at the magazine store I used to frequent than others, so even though I didn't care that much for some of the walkthrough stuff, I read it a lot. There was definitely some good content there.

That's why I liked Expert Gamer - they tried to do the same thing as Tips & Tricks. I really enjoyed the full guide to Lunar: Eternal Blue, and I've also got one that covers Legend of Legaia and Guardian's Crusade. And I think it might have had Shadow Madness in there? Maybe a different issue. Not that the game really needed a guide - it's super easy to beat.

I guess I'll share this depressing image. Took this years ago right before I put them all in the trash during a move from a third floor. I wanted to trim things out and so I did away with them sadly. Lost plenty of other mags as a kid too during some moves, like Nintendo Power, Gamepro, etc. I was more into EGM and Game Informer later on. I kept some weird console exclusive code magazines and stuff like that.
Still kept my strategy guides at least. That's in one box.

Hate that, Xeogred. That being said, wonder what it what take to reobtain those? It has to be cheaper than early edition Nintendo Powers, right? (I should hope so.)

It definitely felt bad. Even if they were in my closet at that point for years, but you never know when you'll want to go through some history again. I should have at least kept some of the random one offs... those are just memories lost like tears in the rain now.

I will tell you, as someone that is fixing those regrets with my recent buying spree, you'll get a chance to reobtain them if you've got enough money and want them badly enough. Those mags are out there, so don't get too down about it!
