For as antiquated as this board's forum software is (kinda fits given the theme) there is a nice feature: It's saved many a potentially lost reply for me.

From what I could gather of FFX's plot; You are a time traveling underwater soccer jock who must save the world from your alcoholic dad who has become sea Godzilla. I'm used to FF games having bleh whatever plots anyway, but FFX truly strives to be awful in that regard. Like food poisoning, it eventually gets better. The dad does redeem himself, or your maybe it counts that you help him redeem himself.
Anyways I doubt you will think the ending is amazing, but it is leading up to the actual plot.
This game (and FFXII) both delay-ed the plot explanation till the last quarter of the game--which is just bad writing.

That was one of my biggest gripes about FFXII - so much of the story stuff that would keep pulling me forward is in the late game. I also never felt very rewarded when I would explore - most random item spots gave pretty garbo items, and I never felt like I had enough cash to stay well-upgraded.

I love FF12 and consider it the best 3D FF, but I won't defend its plot, or lack thereof. I honestly can't remember much at all about its story. I suppose that's better than remembering FF10's plot because of how bad it is. I guess I'll make an effort to finish FF10 this summer. The tropical environs will at least fit the season.

Finally beat FF12 with the HD remaster in 2020. It was a blissful experience in ways, I think the world building and backdrop of Ivalice is amazing. It's such an awesome world to be in. But that can carry me through a game more than most. I won't deny though, any JRPG that lacks a good main rival / antagonist always feels like it's missing a big ingredient to being even better, and yeah the main plot doesn't totally do much. I actually loved how Ashe feels like the main character from the midpoint on in a way, it was kind of hilarious honestly. But then you hear about how Balthier was supposed to be the main character... but mah marketing called for cute girl and boy Vaan and Penelo. I didn't hate them but FF12 clearly lacked coherent direction with its main cast of characters. And wow is it easy to forget about Basch, lol.
Ex : I played KF1-3, SH, SH: Abyss all back to back last year! Come on!! lol, but yeah I still may hit up KF4 this month. It's still real time action, so that's a nice balance in between a turn based JRPG.

If I get a chance - going to be pretty tied up most of the weekend. I've been mulling over playing through the original Halo, actually.

Who's going back to 2001 this weekend? I don't know about this weekend, but I will go back to 2001 this month. Currently I returned to playing through Ever Oasis trying to finish it (put an hour in this evening). Once that's done it's DMC1.

I still enjoy the original Halo a lot. It's also kind of comparable to MGS1 in that, while it spawned a franchise, the first game is still pretty self contained in a satisfying way.
The Anniversary Edition is pretty nice, but does change the music just a tad. But for a newcomer you wouldn't notice and it's not a downgrade or whatever.
