Can you re-confirm any stories about Kamiya not knowing DMC2 existed until he read about it on a train? Kamiya said in an interview with 1UP he didn't know about the sequel when it was being made: "the shock of Devil May Cry 2 not being made by me was the biggest surprise. By the time Viewtiful Joe 2 was being made, I was already used to the shock of having a sequel done by someone else, but with DMC2 it was a big deal. "Ex Capcom being run like a bad marriage, sneaking around behind its game designers back to avoid confrontation. In this video interview, Kamiya goes into more detail about Capcom politics (as in the company keeping information secret between divisions like a bad marriage), and how he found out DMC2 was being developed without his involvement: Yes, I have beaten these: >I'm afraid I won't get to KF4 right now Sad times, but I understand. I hope you knock it out this year because I'd love your opinions of the game. I know you expect it to be quality, but I think you'll be surprised at just how great it really is. But yeah man gotta finish DDS2 first!

Managed to clear 343 Guilty Spark, on to... The Library. Might get a chance to play it more this weekend, but I'm checking out tonight. Still solid stuff overall.

I would never call The Library a favorite level, but I also never hated it like a lot of people.

I didn't hate The Library, but it did go on a bit long. Just have to be somewhat methodical, take your time and don't get surrounded. The best weapons for me were the shotgun and machine gun, the former for the bigger enemies, the latter for the little critters.

The next level is one of my favorites, Two Betrayals. It has one of my favorite musical cues too.
You vs nothing but the Flood is a bit dry, but I love the infighting from here on in the trilogy. Though the Flood AI behavior changes a bit game to game (I hate how they can drive vehicles in 2, lol).

I did enjoy the interplay between the Flood, the Covenant, and the AI bot stuff. It's helping mix things up a little bit. Two missions to go, and I'll have finished one of the more iconic games in history.
EDIT: Alright, up to the final mission. Going to call it a night and finish it tomorrow.

And Halo is down for the count. Going to keep it short tonight, but I liked it overall. No boss battles, which was interesting. Enjoyed letting enemies duking it out between each other. The shooting action feels weighty and solid - the programming here is quite excellent. It's not fast like DOOM and its ilk, but I did like that you could even occasionally use stealth. Heck, I cleared out an entire room using stealth one go around.
The Warthog's controls are... well, not the best. I don't think they're actively bad, but definitely not great for an escape sequence that uses it extensively. Just takes a while to get used to.
Understanding that this is really just rating the campaign, I'd give it a 7.5/10. It's not dislodging DOOM/Dark Forces/Descent from their perch, but I do believe I enjoyed it more than Quake overall.

just rating the campaign, I'd give it a 7.5/10 Congrats on finishing a high profile classic. I think that's a fair score too. Likely the score I would have given Halo back in 2007, when I beat it local split-screen co-op with a friend. The multiplayer aspect of the original Halo is its strongest aspect. Not just the simple-to-use online and LAN modes, which Halo became so popular for, but the local split-screen co-op campaign worked very well. Bungie really went all out on making Halo as multiplayer friendly as possible. I retroactively commend them for that.

Always worth reminding that XBL wasn't a thing until Halo 2. Halo 1 was never online until the PC edition that launched two years after (with lots of cool custom maps and crazy stuff). Frankly this is probably why I hold Halo 1 so close to the chest. Had dozens and dozens of LAN parties and local fun. The game was so massive in my circles that we had several 16 player LAN games which was incredible. My parents weren't into the idea of subscribing me to XBL on the OG Xbox for Halo 2, so I never got into that one nearly as much. But it seemed like gaming crack to most. I was back on board when Halo 3 dropped and had XBL then though. Sarge would probably like the sequel campaigns, but yeah probably won't blow you away or anything. Guess I'm the weirdo for liking the Warthog controls.
