Let's just say that character designer covers many genres. The character designer/artist is Takahiro Kimura. He's worked on anime such as Gundam, City Hunter, and Dirty Pair, so you've surely seen his art before. Apparently did some work on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as well.

Nah not really. I don't post reviews there anymore. I don't tend to write long reviews anymore is why. I do partake in the daily poll occasionally though, and still use the site for info/research.

You're not missing much. I'm weaning myself off there; it's headed downhill rapidly.

it's headed downhill rapidly Sadly I think that applies to retro gaming forums in general. The decline has been the case for (at least) the past five years. That's why I made HRG. The last bastion of no-BS retro gaming forum discussion! Or at least, that was the intent. It does seem non-forum based discussion platforms (like Twitter, Discord) have taken over that space. Personally, I have no interest in shallow short-term platforms such as those.

The Seiken Densetsu 3 board was good in like ~2003 or something. That is randomly the most I ever got into interacting on GameFAQ's. I got one "Cheat" submitted for Twilight Princess.

I should get more PCE gaming in this weekend. Interested in seeing what you play this weekend. We seem to be the only ones with TG/PCE-CD love in our veins this month. I've been having fun doing a deep dive into the library. My respect for the platform has risen as a result. There's another shmup I plan to take down this weekend. And then an action-adventure game after that. I'll likely call it done then. Fun theme though.

Sadly, not the biggest home run with what I just finished.
~1h8m
It's Compile and even an average Compile game might be better than most shmups, but yeah. Was definitely getting lethargic the longer this game went. I'm surprised to see the HCG101 article and others say this game had great graphics at least, but I thought that and the music, the whole production, was pretty subpar across the board. I'm not allergic to non-sci-fi themes, but yeah this one was just kind of boring and lacking in any cool atmosphere.
What I do respect is that the Homing weapon here wasn't super overpowered. Not that I'd ever complain about that with homing weapons in other shmups/sidescrollers, they're always a fun weapon and sometimes do pose their own challenge (say the bullets get stuck in circles or you have an enemy up in your face they might miss). The yellow weapon here was weird, it was like chucking rocks that go up only a bit and then fall down the screen, but it looks like enemy fire in a strange way. Green/Blue were my favorites and some standard spread type shots.
I guess this game is extremely pricey. I can only imagine because of a small print run and Compile's name carrying a lot of weight with Aleste and some of their excellent shmups. But I wouldn't really go out of my way to recommend this one.
