1983 game by UPL. When I first saw the game title and release date I figured it was a top-down maze game. It's actually a single-screen platformer, one of the better genres of the era. It was ported back in the day, to the MSX. Surprised I never stumbled across it when I was briefly into that system.

Glad to see an entry that's not another shmup. Never heard of Mouser but it seems slightly Donkey Kong influenced:

Like Dark Adventure, this is another Konami game I had never heard of until it hit the Archives. YouTube footage makes it look like a slower and methodical sidescroller, kinda like Shinobi and Rolling Thunder. Seems cool.

Surprise Attack has an unusual feature: I'll have to play this one sometime, looks fun. Maybe Sarge will give us a '90s arcade theme this year.

I'll add it to the ideas list! That would definitely be a fun theme.

I'd never heard of Surprise Attack, either, even when specifically searching for more games like Shinobi. They'd list stuff that IMO doesn't really fit, like Elevator Action, but not this. I'm going to have to play this.

One of the Qix sequels, with the same territory-filling concept. However, this one features a sci-fi setting as opposed to simplistic abstract geometric figures. The game received a handful of ports back in the day and was called Ultimate Qix on the Genesis. I remember buying it years ago, thinking it was a shmup based on the box art.

As a Simple Man™, I've always been fond of the Japanese arcade Qix rip-offs where you reveal ecchi ladies. You've probably seen these before; there are loads of them playable via MAME. My favorite is Dancing Eyes.

Qix is fun stuff. I remember playing a lot of the C64 version back in the day. (I think it was the C64 version, memories are getting hazy!)

I dunno about ecchi but the ACTUAL Qix games eventually tossed in cute anime girls..... And yeah, Qix had some great ports. I enjoy it on C64 too. Have it complete in the big box.
