Oh, neat. I never actually had any boxed C64 games - all my stuff was *ahem* copied pirated stuff. My aunt had a legit copy of Ultima IV, though.

Namco game I had never heard of. Looks like a medieval Bomberman. Has "vania" in the title lol.

Yeah it's just a fantasy themed Bomberman ripoff. I do like the "chests everywhere" idea.

lol most random choice ever!!!!!!! Super Xevious: GAMP no Nazo (or "Gump" apparently) was a Famicom sequel to Xevious. Looks like it was also in the arcades thanks to Nintendo's Vs. System. This is the first Vs. game to show up on the Archives since Vs. Tennis in 2020. I have the Famicom cart. The game kind of sucks. It reminds me of one of Namco's other turds -- The Tower of Druaga -- in that stage exits are only accessible if certain hidden "secrets" are found. Oh and the arcade/X68000 "Super Xevious" is a completely different game. Of course it is.

I was hoping it wouldn't be another shmup, and it looks like a bad one on top of that. Lame.

Xevious is really important, though. I had the NES version for a while, traded it, and eventually got it back. It was a'ight for what it was, but yeah, it hasn't aged all that well.

I played the original NES Xevious as a kid a ton, trying to beat it. Can't remember how I ended up with a copy in middle school. Wondered why it never ended. Eventually found out years later it's a looper. This is the only Xevious that I think is good:

The original Xevious has been on the Archives since 2021. It's decent. I like the NES and 7800 ports too. Haven't played that PlayStation game but I bet I would enjoy it. I tend to enjoy the Golden Age reboots/sequels.
