XeogredGlad you enjoyed the first Splatterhouse, I'll be interested to see if you think 2 is an improvement or not. There's no question about SP3 though, it's ostensibly great. I also agree with toei that the Famicom game is skippable.

I like Wanpaku Graffiti, but yeah, it's not must-play or anything. Just a solid little NES sidescroller.

IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN, AS LONG AS THE MASK EXISTS
Beat Splatterhouse 2. Consider me surprised, but I think I like the first game more. It felt a bit more varied and had a more unnerving vibe to it I think. But this was still cool. The bosses were more complex and interesting for sure.

Does seem most players like SP1 more than SP2. They're about equal for me, though I think SP2's final boss is more annoying. Now you're ready for the apex... Good luck beating it legit.

Not even sure I'm up for this WITH save states.
The time limits are brutal too, but I was surprised it's not a game over thing. Guess it determines if you can save Jennifer or whatever?
The special move is tricky to pull off, the movement in general is a tad slippery.
Seems pretty cool. But definitely brutally tough for sure.
I like how the highest difficulty in these is "Game Master".

SP3 took me a while to Git Gud enough to beat a legit cart on a real Genesis back in ye day. I eventually got the best ending, and yeah there are multiple endings. The struggle is worth it though, it's an excellent beat 'em up and 100% unique.

Finally explored a lot of the Central Tower lower 2nd floor, then got to some water/cliffs area (a nice nod to KF2 with a broken katana you can discover), and a really cool mini dungeon out in the ocean that felt like Sen's Fortress and some DS2 areas. Loved this area and found some really good gear. Found several lost soldiers along the way that dropped some hints on how to access the "Queen's Tower"... sounds like that'll be the next big dungeon.
And MAPS!!!

Xeogred I remember that ocean fortress. It was a strangely relaxing to explore chill place. Filled with those sea monsters that shoot mini tidal waves IIRC. - Title: Splatter MasterPlatform: PlayStation 2 Region release played: PAL Year of release: 2004 (Japan) / 2005 (PAL) Developer: Vingt-et-un Systems Publisher: 505 Game Street Graphics: 3/5 Audio: 4/5 Challenge: 4/5 Fun factor: 3/5 Quick Thoughts: Simple 2000 Series Vol. 64: The Splatter Action is a 3D beat 'em up released in 2004 in Japan, later released as Splatter Master in Europe in 2005. Players act as a magical scarecrow seeking to kill the evil vampire wizard Jagodd who has conquered the scarecrow's village. The scarecrow will punch, kick and brutally chainsaw everything that gets in its way. There are seven stages that each culminate with a unique boss to slice into salami. With its consistent comedy spooky theming, Splatter Master is a perfect Halloween treat for beat 'em fans. +Nails the "silly scary" theme. +Chainsawing boo baddies into bloody body bits. +Has a shop system with a hottie merchant. +Rockin' OST. +Fun boss battles. -Solo only, no two player simultaneous play. -The platforming portions are cheap. -Could use more enemy variety. -Always runnin' outta dang chainsaw gas. -Last two stages are punch in the nuts difficulty curve.

Glad you played Splatter Master, it's a pretty cool little game. Definitely one of the better Simple releases. I first played SM in 2007, when I was on a Simple 2000 kick. But yesterday was the first time I've ever finished it. I'm pretty sure you wrote an HG101 article for this one: www.hardcoregaming101.net/splatter-master/
