I know what this is... JUST GOT POWER IT UP!!! (song always cracks me up) The Widda/Queen's Tower had some tough bosses. The two stupid snakes in the holes were annoying and could poison you through the cramped hallway nearby. Was low on herbs and all so I figured it was time to backtrack back to Central Tower level 2 and thankfully so, as I finally found the Engineer's key. Somehow remembered one of the very early game locked Engineer doors too, in the KF2 styled castle area before you first discover the Central Tower. Gave me some arms that are decent defense but up your attack. Maybe useful. But the Engineer's quarters had another key to lower a bridge in level 2, so that makes getting back to the Widda area easier. I tried to take down the two snakes from afar but lost my patience to the point of finally equipped a two handed sword, ran up on one and clobbered them. After that one was pretty easy to take down solo. Earlier on I fought two gold stone giants. They were really easy to kite around a corner/wall though.
But then Medusa Widda herself (I'm assuming), just had to get in there and tank it. I figured out that my level 3 Wind Cutter could stun her, so I tried to alternate between melee and magic attacks when possible. Sunk some herbs/liquids, antidotes, mushrooms, full heal item, status effect healing (damn paralyze), phew... cool boss nonetheless. Seriously think there might be a throwback to this boss in DS2.
My Wind Cutter is now sometimes shooting out 2 blades. Pretty cool. I usually favor fire spells in these, but this one pierces enemies and has been my go to it seems. HOWEVER, that reminds me, the Widda staff I got here regenerates MP. I'm glad I equipped it for the heck of it to test out the magic damage boost, then saw my MP bar slowly going up. That's already a game changer if I'm deep somewhere without a warp and low on flasks or something. Can just be patient for an MP refill to heal up.
The mummies in this dungeon were tricky too. Their reach was a lot farther than you'd guess. Next up, according to the save statue... "Egg Field".

Got in on that Splatterhouse action. Arcade version. Ended up taking longer than expected - it's not a continue-in-place game, so you can't really credit-feed your way through. I can see where this would have been a bit shocking back in the day. It's a quite simple game at heart, though, not really much removed from, say, the much-maligned Altered Beast or games like Spartan X/Kung Fu, but the novelty of the visuals definitely make an impression.
Anyway, I think... it's probably a 6.5 or 7 to me. It's not going to set the world on fire, but it's a fun timekiller.

XeogredLoving those screenshots, sweet nostalgia... hope you're still enjoying KF4. SargeI'm surprised you hadn't already played through Splatterhouse, but a 7 is a fair score. I think as much as you enjoy z-axis beat 'em ups, Splatterhouse 3 would be more your jam.

I've definitely played through it before, although I don't remember if I actually finished the arcade version. I've definitely gone through the PC Engine port, and also through Splatterhouse 2 on Genesis. I don't remember if I actually pushed through the third game or not - might need to look at my old posts. I know I tried at some point.

Got a little more in tonight. Egg Field was fortunately a short mine cart area. I didn't love that crazy one in KF2. There was a weird human NPC guarding a gate that wanted an egg. After getting that and proceeding through the gate, I found his hideout behind a hidden wall as usual. But then found "Mu's Necklace", that lights up secret/trap walls! Whoa! Very cool. I've gotten good at finding them by this point, but this might be a permanent equip now to make sure I find everything I can. Alas, gotta switch it out in this area for the water necklace a bit.
Reached the "Great Graveyard" as well and unlocked another shortcut back to the Central Tower.
I got chills exploring this little sunken temple area. Reminded me a LOT of New Londo Ruins in Dark Souls and another area in Dark Souls 2 I love. Heh, for as much pain as Ocarina of Time's Water Temple gave the world pain, I love these mysteriously decayed and submerged settings.
By the way for some spooky update...
Along the way to Widda cliffside/Tower, you run into one soldier who gives you some details on the captive captain of the expedition, then run into a little camp of three other wounded soldiers. One guy only talked about being "hungry" and eating everything he could. Don't bother him, because he was busy eating and hungry. After finding the captains corpse and the Lawful Blade, I went back to this camp and the door was blocked by the hungry guy... I couldn't see anything else through the cracks. I wasn't taking chances so I killed the dude and could open the door then. Everyone else was gone, so I can only imagine that guy ate the two others...

Amazing stuff this morning. Finally discovered the grand Gold Fountain at the bottom level 1 of Central Tower. Found the ultimate MAP! The treasury was awesome to explore and figure out some of the puzzles/traps. "First, the mother Earth was born. The pure water tamed the raging fire. The cold wind ended all."
Ventured into a poisonous chamber that needed some "Altar of Water" item, so I backtracked and explore the Mansion of Howling Winds next. Finally meant Serrak's fate and got that key. An easy but cool boss in that area. Only two more keys left and 20 some hours in, I figure I'm pretty far now.
I have 4 of the Black Eyes now. Discovered 3 pieces of "Sealed" equipment so far and noted them down. But I was able to sell off a ton and also get a full set of the Crystal gear.
Still not sure if I ever used this Zastari key.
I discovered two "Torch of Lights" along the way that I couldn't figure out and might have to backtrack for.
3 Forest Folk Chests I'll need to backtrack for. So that's probably one of the final keys.

I remember the 3D map. Really cool how it shows the whole level in 3D like that, and yet I hardly ever used it. The reveal hidden doors item I used often though.

Yeah, sometimes the flat 2D maps are still better. This thing seems to be a map of every single area from what I've noticed though, so that's awesome.

Played a little Uninvited on NES last night. I'm finally going to knock this one out - I had a halfway run on the PSP somewhere that I didn't feel like finding again, and besides, I didn't remember where I was. It's not a long game, though.

Yeah I "beat" Uninvited NES a few years ago. It's amusing but use a walkthrough if you value your time as the "puzzles" are nonsense. I was considering playing through Dead of the Brain this month (does have an English translation), but I don't have the patience presently for a Japanese menu-style adventure. I'll be hitting up at least one more horror action title though.
