Title: Zombie RaidPlatform: Arcade Region release played: USA Year of release: 1995 Developer: Sammy Corporation Publisher: American Sammy Corporation Graphics: 3/5 Audio: 2/5 Challenge: 5/5 Fun factor: 2/5 Quick Thoughts: Zombie Raid is a 1995 horror arcade light gun shooter (the cabinet included two plastic shotguns that had to be pump actuated to reload, see photo below). Up to two players shoot zombies and monsters (while trying not to shoot innocent people) through five stages with destructible terrain (reveals power-ups) and a boss per stage. To reach the final boss, the player must find three colored crystals (hidden in destructible objects) and place them in the proper order at the end of the fifth stage. Failure to find all the crystals, or to place them correctly, will immediately game over with the player(s) being dropped into a pit of spikes (actually a blessing because at least then this mess is over). +Pumping the plastic shotguns IRL to reload was a cool idea. +Large sprites and detailed background art. +At one point you see your (player designated) name on a gravestone. +Humorously corny NPC dialogue. +The programmer's name is credited as "Meat Bacon Apple". -Incredibly repetitive and boring game design. -The difficulty is ludicrous (nobody legit 1CC'd this, I refuse to believe it). -The "find the hidden 3 crystals or insta-lose" idea was completely retarded. -Shoot an innocent and you lose life and all your weapon power-ups. -You will be tired of this game much faster than it tires of you.
The physical shotguns were the only redeeming aspect of this trash. Ex's time to beat: 42 minutes*
Ex's rating: 3/10
*Played via MAME using a mouse as a substitute light gun.
- That wraps it up for me for this month, here's what I beat:
Splatterhouse 2 (SEGA Genesis) 7/10 Splatter Master (PlayStation 2) 7/10
Zombie Raid (Arcade) 3/10

I'd love a proper light gun setup for some of these games - I've never found using a mouse adequately replaces the experience. But I don't doubt you that this game ain't great. I may or may not be able to squeeze in one more game before the theme is done, but if not, here's the tally: - Dracula: The Undead (5/10) - Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday (6/10) - Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula-kun (7.5/10) - Uninvited (6/10) - Splatterhouse (7/10) Hey, I finally got some games in!

I like that lightgun game's graphics, but yeah, it probably doesn't play well. In the same vein, CarnEvil and House of the Dead are king. Xeogred I really meant to play it this past weekend. I still hope to play it before too long.

Squeaking in another under the wire, it's Splatterhouse 2. More of the same, although this one is actually darker in some ways. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one, although there are spots where this feels quite unfair until you find the right pattern and safe spots. I'm pretty sure the last time I beat it I did it legit, but this one I abused save states on the Genesis Mini 2. I'd say it's much like the first, 6.5 or 7/10, somewhere in that ballpark. It's a good, if unspectacular, game outside of the gory visuals.

A 7/10 for Splatterhouse 2 is right in line with what I rated it, we are in agreement.
Have you ever played Splatterhouse 3?

I've played it, I just don't remember if I beat it. I know if I did, I didn't get the good ending.
