Knocked out Metroid Rogue Dawn. Simply put, yeah you guys should check this one out. Anyone who likes the original Metroid will dig this. Only took close to 3 hours and I never found myself getting stuck or confused with the exception of one area that seemed intentionally maze like, but I never had to look anything up and figured it out after awhile. In addition to the wall jump being in this, so is the spring ball along with being able to morph ball mid air which you can't do originally in the NES game. The story, graphics, music, levels, new bosses, etc, everything was top notch. Glad I played it! The ending kind of hints at a potential sequel maybe, it would be neat if they cooked up a sequel rom hack with Super Metroid.

Now that the Sd2snes can play Super FX games... Yoshi's Island: Pacifier Edition - This is a simple hack. It removes the crying and timer sounds. That's it. For those of you that find the crying way more irritating than the timer, you can use a simple Game Genie code to remove the crying: 44A0-672B. But of course, you can't use a real Super FX cart with a real Game Genie. With a SNES Pro Action Replay MK2 you could use cheat codes with Super FX games, but we only had the Game Genie in North America. I actually bought a SNES PAR MK2 off eBay, but it's in crummy condition. I had put some serious thought into using the Game Genie code to hard patch the game and mod my Yoshi's Island cart, but I wasn't too keen on doing that. But now because of the Sd2snes, we can use Game Genie codes with Super FX games! Yoshi's Island - No Crying, Improved SFX and Red Coins - This hack removes the crying, but also removes the crying sprite animation, which is a nice touch. It also changes the timer sound to something less irritating, as well as changes several other sound effects to something less irritating. This hack also makes all the red coins actually appear red. Normally, there's only gold coins. You discover that a gold coin was really red only after collecting it. So this sorta changes the difficulty a bit, but only in terms of 100% collect-a-thon gameplay.

There's actually a very subtle tint to the gold/red coins, they look a bit thicker. You can spot them after awhile among a crowd of regular coins, but yeah it's sometimes tricky to tell with some coins placed in weird spots. That's hilarious removing the annoying crying/timer noises. The GBA version is even worse since it added Yoshi's constipated grunts when he jumps and flutters, that started in Yoshi's Story.

LOL. I posted the same thing on Racketboy and was told the same thing about the gold coins. I can't believe I haven't noticed that before. I blame the crying baby!

Ziggy thanks for that Game Genie code. I absolutely adore Yoshi's Island, it's one of the greatest platformers ever made. The only complaint I have against it at all is that damned baby crying noise. It would be fine if it were just a little quieter, a little more muted. But no, the developers REALLY wanted you to want to grab that baby Mario. I sometimes think Yoshi's Island would have been better if it just completely omitted the whole baby thing entirely. Just give Yoshi a couple hearts or something, he dies if he loses all his hearts. The whole baby gimmick wasn't really necessary. It was just a way to shoehorn Mario into the equation.

I love Baby Mario in Yoshi's Island, its probably the most brilliant way I've seen a game incentivise playing good without punishing the player from a gameplay point of view. Honestly, you can just tank hits through Yoshi's Island and play like total garbage and still never die or have to restart anything (Which is good, since the game probably attracted youngins), but that a game like this could still make every single person playing it avoid taking damage like the plague just to dodge a sound clip is absolutely brilliant.
I agree that it is one of, if not the best platformer ever made, but for me a small part of that equation is Baby Mario. Its such a backwards and unusual way to approach a pretty normal thing in gaming. Granted, I know people outright avoid the game because of it, so hopefully that hack will create some new fans.

The first time I learned there was any widespread hatred of baby Mario in SMW2 was when Joe and Dave brought it up in an episode of Game Sack. When I played the GBA version as a teenager I didn't even notice it.

Yeah, the sound didn't bother me as much as some, I reckon. It definitely pushes you to get him back as quickly as possible, though.

Just knocked out 10 maps of the Hellbound megawad and this one freaking rules! Loving it so far. It's a 2013 release and shows, the textures/architecture is extremely detailed. Love how the levels are continuously linked too giving off the vibe of one huge journey. www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/hellbndHere's one map I liked a lot, it was like some UAC subway military complex. This player is using Complex Doom as well which I'm doing. Though their configuring leaves a bit to be desired... kind of dark and drab looking, I've got it a bit brighter and more colorful.

I'm two levels away from finally conquering Hellbound. This megawad is insane and I'll probably clock in over 12 hours on it. Overall this is one of the best megawad's I've played by far, though I do like the first half (Earth bases) more than the hell levels. But that's often how it goes for me with all things Doom, I'm a sucker for the sci-fi complexes and such. This whole megawad showcases some of the best details and architecture I've ever seen. It's a 2013 release and shows. Highly recommended. Next up I might give Back to Saturn X a shot, another 2013 release (revised in 2017 too it seems). Looks extremely promising and has a lot of new textures like Community Chest Pack 4. I think the first level really shows off how amazing and far the Doom community has come, for anyone interested:
Also can't tell if the music is a remix or original, but it's rad.
