I kinda get it - I enjoyed Pokemon Blue back in the day - but I think it's a little too grind-heavy and story-light these days for me to truly enjoy. (That being said, the high-level competitive metagame is pretty cool from all I see out there.)

Don't call me a millennial!!!
But yes my generation is obsessed with this dookie. I'll never get it. I would somehow get my hands on cards back in the 90's and trade CARDS for VIDEOGAMES. N64 game and stuff. I almost felt bad for the trades, as in like I was scamming people, but that's how stupidly obsessed they were with Pokemon in the 90's and... forever.
The only series that ever looked mildly interesting to me on this front is Yugioh. The Egyptian theme and art looked cooler then I guess. But yeah I don't care anymore. I have SMT.

Otherwise known as Pokemon for grown ups. It's possible the Dragon Quest Monsters series and some of the later Digimon games are good too.

Yes, DQM is pretty good. Maybe one day I'll get someone here to play one. DQM2 (on the GBC) and Caravan Hearts (on the GBA) are the ones most like regular DQs, as they have you going on an adventure all over the world and the stories don't really revolve around capturing monsters, it's just something you do. Those are the ones I recommend. I especially liked DQM2, it felt like a legit 8-bit DQ, just with monster catching and breeding. The others usually take place in one location and revolve around tournaments. I don't really recommend the first, but the Joker games were at least decent. A little forgettable, maybe.

Are you old enough to be an Xennial? That's close enough, haha. My brother and I just barely scrape into Gen X, and Ex is like three months older than me. (Actually, I think it's this month, right?!)

Actually, I think it's this month I'll be 45 this month yeah. I was born in '79 and fall within the Gen X window. Boomers always complaining about millennials, millennials always complaining about boomers, everybody forgot about gen X. That's fine with us.

Yes we are, yes we are. My "backlog" is older than most modern gamers. But I'll keep playing long as I'm able.

I actually wonder if playing hard/stressful games is very good for the heart in old age...
