I immediately thought Gargoyle's Quest. Which game/series is it? You nailed it. Vintage official concept art from Gargoyle's Quest. A lot of times the official artwork ends up looking nothing like the game, but I immediately got the feel of those Gargoyle's Quest towns from that one, with the small wooden homes, fences and ghouls.

I especially loved Demon's Crest. Sarge and I both are big fans of Demon's Crest. Good to see another fan around HRG! The series yes... sad indeed.
Though it should be noted, Firebrand did make an appearance again as a playable fighter, both in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. I hope you do, it's a fantastic brief experience. The original Gargoyle's Quest is my all time favorite Game Boy title, and one of my favorite games of all time period. Gargoyle's Quest II on NES is also really good.
I don't recommend the Game Boy version of Gargoyle's Quest II despite the extra content - as there are view restrictions that complicate things which didn't happen in the NES version.

I'll just dream of a kickstarter or something.

A modern game that has some structural similarities is Odallus, but I also don't think it's as good, just because you don't get the awesome flight abilities that Demon's Crest gives. I'd love for an indie game to recapture that vibe. I thought perhaps Owlboy would be the one, just with a much cuter aesthetic, but no dice.

Utata Kiyoshi arts. I have been wanting this book for awhile now, and finally have it. The only downside to it is no color (and I know color art exists for a lot of the images inside, because I have them in some Gamest issues). My main reason for wanting this book was for the Osman/Cannon Dancer works, but he worked on a lot of other cool games too. Images ahead (not the best quality, just took them hastily) The cover: Cannon Dancer stuff: This one is too blurry, but it is supposed to be comparing the concept art to the pixel art: Non-Osman game arts:

Speaking of Osman, has anyone here actually beaten that game? I've played it a fair bit, but never finished it.

Yep, I beat it some years ago. It's not a hard game overall, but there is one spot that you do not want to die at, or you're in for bad times. It took me quite a bit of time to get back on track - being thrown back to the beginning of the stage would have been more advantageous.
