The violence doesn't turn me off... but simply being a mass of blobbage does! I think it would go against my videogame programming. I need a single, solid, body to control in a game.

If playing as The Thing sounds cool to you and can stomach mapless metroidvanias (I can't), CARRION might be worth checking out I got a PC copy of this not long ago. It looks interesting to me. Although not all that innovative. It kinda reminds me of a more violent Mushroom 11, a game I beat back in 2017.

Interesting... it might actually turn out pretty well. It definitely feels more like a Saturday morning cartoon, which is probably exactly what they were going for.
So I just gave Double Dragon IV a go, and... well, it's... well, it's not bad, but I'm not sure I'd call it good, either. Combat feels fine, but enemies absolutely swarm you, and they take off massive chunks of life. You're not nearly as durable as in the older games, which is very unfortunate when fighting the Abobos and whatnot. I think I made it to the last stage before getting destroyed on a platforming section, most of which had been pretty easy until then. I'll probably give it another go, but it has absolutely nothing on any of the NES Double Dragon games.
Also, holy inefficient file sizes, Batman! 86 MB download expands to over 1 GB.

Sarge I wonder if they patched it or something? When I tried it, it barely had any enemies at all.

Haha, oh, there were plenty that would swarm you later on. A couple of spots had me taking on five or six at once. The fights that are the worst are the ones with multiple Burnovs/Abobos. Especially that gray Abobo at the end - his spinning leap attack basically one-shots you. Ugh.
I did beat it, though. Took a third shot at it to get it done.

I do not like the graphic style of that new Battletoads. But the base gameplay itself looks alright.

Now that is wacky. Double Dragon IV actually got a patch in the last week! Apparently it adds online mode and changes collisions to be more like DD2... which might be why I didn't hate it?

Good taste. I've played through all of the NeoRetro titles there, and none of them are below an 8/10 for me. Still need to get back to Sonic Mania, and I'll probably give those FPSs a shot at some point.
